WHEN IN APRIL

Authored by Yesu Ben
Guys, i was out of town, where signal is not that good, farming and trekking. I intend to try to beat the lockdown on August 6 by locking myself up in my farm until they lift it. Why when it entails a lot of physical effort to work on a farm? Firstly because there is hope there and there is fresh air, lotsa quick-smiling/greeting people, farmers on horseback sharing their veggies. Yes, there are more horses there than cows or carabaos.

WHEN IN APRIL
yb
At long last, clouds have lifted and dispersed;
The birds have reappeared; the land is wet;
The air smells of fresh earth; anguish reversed;
Yellow flowers dressed in green – proud and set
For a new day’s longed for exchange of views,
The meadow has become a noisy place;
Flora in brightest fashion clothes and shoes;
A conversation lively, vines embrace;

On privacies and on those blust'ring trees,
On rain, on covert sneak of weed on ground;
all drinking to the renaissance with glee
A cycle’s been concluded; life is found!
The conscious world sings, breathes and is aware!
With tenor voice that echoes in the air!

THE MISSING TOILET PAPER

Prologue
This poem is not imaginary. This is based on FACT that it happened in the country where I live.

Panic buying had been circulated by rumour machines for some years in Down Under until one day it hit the ground and caught us by surprise in the real time. As lockdown ensued by the order from the authority, I heard all the shameful commotions goin on and for the first time, we became a laughing stock all over the world. But only for one reason caused by the "bloody" ass wiper. After almost one month being jailed in my own home, I finally went out to do my shopping when my victuals ran out. Lo and behold!  The supermarkets were virtually empty!

THE (Controversial) MISSING TOILET PAPER
By Leah C. Dancel

Australians all went berserk
They got frantic over the covid scare
When strangers from overseas came to stay
They spilled the beans of this lethal viral spread.

Hence Big Brother felt in alarming scale
To hear the worldwide chaos soaked in fear;
Big Brother conceded it must close its bridge;
Cordon the borders of sea, land and air.

When contained, they passed a stringent order
To set the whole land in a mass lockdown
Diverse reactions elicited abeyance.
Do or die it made someone's blood run cold.

Inside Noah's Ark panic had begun
Watching each other's step that wearied everyone
Prompted by social distancing on demand
Distrust trajected but subtly kept mum.

Food became scarce, and other essentials too.
Store shelves were left empty
From bread to pasta and toilet papers rolled away
Prices hit the roof in disbelief and awe.

Australians hit the world news with shame and sham
With people driving people up the wall
Over the head why for toilet rolls they slammed
They lost respect and made us small.

In the eyes of the universe who once esteemed us high
But now the missing toilet papers are back on sale.
Covid is still here, never on the mend as yet
Till death comes at the door who's target next.

THE ONLY CHOICE

By Hedda Tady
To be mindful that tomorrow is just a hope,
That yesterday is just a memory,
That we only have today and now, to live.

That is the secret to being present.

Be where you need to be, with who you want to be.
For there is only one thing that is certain : our mortality.

To live without regrets,
To pass this world and into the next without a tugging at the heart,
For things left undone,
Or for people left unloved,
Or for tasks left half-finished.

We only have one life.
Today, once it comes to pass, can never be re-lived.
There is no turning back,
There are no “if onlys”.

There is just the now and the today.
Live. That is the only choice.

OF MIGRATORY BIRDS AND MEN

By Crispulo Bacud Tappa

Drifting in a speedy current
of air, so bold.
Leaving a place filled with  snow,       so thick and so  cold.
Death is certain for birds
with frozen bleeding  hearts.
Flying in mid-air miles
away till death departs.
Sensing danger, they fly
away to safer coasts.
For  self-preservation,
fly away at all costs.

When food is scarce, men
migrate for greener pastures.
Travel many miles away,
their destiny lures.
Live through  different climates,
lifestyles, and cultures.
Adjust he must, aclimatize,
blend, to survive.
When he has done all
these, he has truly arrived.
Salute to migrant workers,
some lived, some have died.

Note: First line is a prompt taken from Mr. Elmer Maribbay's wall, my former high school teacher, and school paper adviser.

POETRY SAVES

By Melanie Mabao Amante Maguindanao

In this world where madness raves,
Man by nature in beauty craves.
Our time that robs this inclination,
In poetry, we cling sans hesitation.

Poetry saves
A way for an artist paves...
The  painting of human suffering...
In ink of pain, our hope is lingering.

In chaos, in doubts, and troubles,
Poetry stirs the mind in bubbles...
Of faith, of drifting thoughts, and dreams.
Even the ugly truth in beauty screams

Hollow is heaped in words' delight.
Empty is filled with poet's might.
The rhyming riddle in between
Adheres  to brilliance in a stream.

The bloom of meaningful thoughts,
In words bountiful spring cohorts.
In life, where boredom waives...
Take courage, poetry saves.

THE JOURNEY

By Percy Roxas

walking through the forest path;
it's been a hectic journey
as toll of age now wields its wrath
the road becomes a bit more scary.

no hands to hold, the arms are thinner
how lonelier becomes the walk
the solitude of trees are keener
can't stop for them to have a talk.

oh younger, younger, home my post
this road has always been a blast;
now simply wandering's being lost;
no crickets even I can trust

slowly, with the wobbling knees
the feeling reel, and roll, and spin
you flick the wand, for dues, for fees
and hope the world's where it had been

but darkness looms, and spreads, and fast
though no one dear stands to see
the thickets of our fate, they last
so let them be -- you should be free.

time now to sit and get some air
although to some that seems unfair!

PARADISE LOST

From Yesu Ben

Here is a poem by John Milton which i have memorized by heart (actually it's part of Paradise Lost Lines 589-669) i thought na bagay na bagay sa picture mo although i have likened Satan to Prometheus who defied the gods by stealing heaven's fire but was tied to a rock (this earth is a rock):
(Satan) or Percy Byshe Shelley's Prometheus

 John Milton:
He, above the rest
In shape and gesture proudly eminent,
Stood like a tower. His form had yet not lost
All her original brightness, nor appeared
Less than Archangel ruined, and th' excess
Of glory obscured: as when the sun new-risen
Looks through the horizontal misty air
Shorn of his beams, or, from behind the moon,
In dim eclipse, disastrous twilight sheds
On half the nations, and with fear of change
Perplexes monarchs. Darkened so, yet shone
Above them all th' Archangel: but his face
Deep scars of thunder had intrenched, and care
Sat on his faded cheek, but under brows
Of dauntless courage, and considerate pride
Waiting revenge. Cruel his eye, but cast
Signs of remorse and passion, to behold
The fellows of his crime, the followers rather
(Far other once beheld in bliss), condemned
For ever now to have their lot in pain —
Millions of Spirits for his fault amerced
Of Heaven, and from eternal splendours flung
For his revolt — yet faithful how they stood,
Their glory withered; as, when heaven's fire
Hath scathed the forest oaks or mountain pines,
With singed top their stately growth, though bare,
Stands on the blasted heath.

INDESTRUCTIBLE

A human being I was born
I got to live by brain and brawn
Through many trials I transform
But to the world I won't conform

I'm stubborn, incorrigible
Values are non-negotiable
I'll stand my ground, my principles
None can break my unyielding soul

Maturity I must attain
To higher self I shall ascend
Endure the sorrow and the pain
'Til everything comes to an end

Afterlife is destination
Death is just the initiation
Let fire burn 'til I'm consumed
Out from my ashes I'm reborn

HOLISTIC LOVE

Her beauty captured him. She thought he'll love her till the end.
Yet her outer beauty upon the rolling of time has changed.

She was naive and innocent in her own natural ways.
She was a hunger to learn as hours turned to days.

She was dismayed when she realized life wasn't smooth.
She battled strifes in her life. She never ever thought.

Her beauty gradually fades upon the churning of times.
She gained faith she held by her soul and tears from her eyes.

His love was lost, and he finds someone to fill his desire.
As she became unattractive from his own worldly eyes

Woman as she is, she became wiser as she gets older.
She danced so gracefully to the tune of life though it was bitter.

She's was buffed like gold to produce her shine.
Nothing she had but only the faith, one day, she can survive.

She is no longer a woman who can turn heads unto her
Only she knew she had to strive to the fullest and bear.

Till she knew  to love her own unique and divine self,
She learned from the fantastic quotes of life she reads.

She embraced the beauty of life she thought she hadn't
Her life upon its melancholy continued to grow, not barren.

She already sags. She's is old, but she shades like a lamp so warm.
Even she lost her outer beauty, but she's confident and calm.

Now, he regretted hurting her as their love was buried by her.
She was persistent in walking on a difficult path without fear.

She was greeted by dazzling splendid beams of sunshine.
She became sweeter in the lingers of time, like wine.

She became prettier as she splashes her kind, pure heart.
She's old, but a kind of her will make her man truly glad.

She met a loving man who captivated her kind heart.
Who promised her nothing in the world, only just love

She's the woman in her ways dreamed by every man to have
He captured her heart and built her confidence firmly back.

She's the princess of him who knows love and its meaning.
She is the treasure of his heart till he breathes set to an end.

She will forever be loved by him no matter what she looks like.
She is his angel, and she meant the world in his sight.

Though how badly her old love dreamed and wished  her back
It made him sad, as she found a man to love her no matter what.

Regret always comes too late, Men. Can we have your stance?
Can you define love to its essence, that love is acceptance?

Not only to the beauty of our faces and our curvy shape
We are women who deserve a kind of love that is holistic.

ALTAR OF DREAMS

I
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!"
Where virtue of purity in her heart resides
She values the importance of morality
Lost in this world of impurities and human indignities.

II
"The world forgetting, by the world forgot."
Where she's unmindful of her surrounds,
buried deep in vileness acts.
She shuts her eyes on things she has no control;
In the altar of solitude she found peace,  her sole comfort.

III
"Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!"
Where she nurtures her thoughts of spiritual kind
For a noble purpose that is true to her core
A calling she adheres with a conscience pure.

IV
"Each prayer accepted, and each wish resigned."
Before the Altar of Dreams she laid her soul bare
To the Giver above whom she petitioned her desires
She's a faithful wife, a doting mom and her Eaglets' Wings!

TREE

By Dex Amaroso

Trees will all be tall,
the branches starting high,
Hard to climb
but at the top
new sight.

She will not shade you from the light
but offer
Innumerable mirrors.

She knows peace
is hard for you.
You must find it
not by pruning her,
but by moving
in her strangeness.

LET GO AND GRAB

By Crispina Vedra-Diego

Let go of the past and grab the present,
Let go of the heartache and grab the new encounter,
Let go of the pains and grab the healing,
Let go of the hate and grab the love from within,
Let go of the bitterness and grab sweet memories,
Let go of selfisness and grab the act of giving,
Let go of the aches and grab the balm of mercy,
Let go of the failures and grab the hand of success,
Let go of the cries and grab the sweet smiles,
Let go of your life and grab Christ's life,
Let go of the world and grab the place up yonder.

ON WINTER

By Yesu Ben
 (Catching your S1's Winter Chills)

Long grey days of standstill, days of desolate frost;
Winter childbirths gloomiest thoughts, of loved ones we have lost.
Why heavy feelings come – why linger with the snow;
Why when there's no sun solacing, why when even sprouts can’t grow.
This stretches on and on, this sea of white and grey;
Its beauty simply is not real, like
mem’ry dimmed away.

NB
(it's called a Poulter's Measure- alternating between 12 and 14. Poulter of course has to do with chicken, poultry. Thus the 12 for eggs are usually sold by the dozen. I chose the long lines of this form for they kind of create a feeling that this world is oppressive, since the reading is slowed. The rhymed couplets hopefully mirror in the pair of interrogative echos of L3 and L4 as well as the paired phrases of L5. I try to hinge at the center of the line to elaborate or to echo and to extend description. Try it)

I'LL COVER YOU WITH SUNSHINE

Writing from a spoonfed photo and title concept as inspired by our once a Little Smart Kiddo, growing into a young lady and ultimately a woman, a wife and a mother of one smart boy.

Miemie:

I'll cover you with sunshine

To quell your freezing day.

The winter chills are dreary

I'll warm you from behind.

I'll cover you with sunshine

With rays around me shine

I'll wrap you in my arms

With love enfolding and warm.

Me:

Your sea looks radiant from afar.

It's calm and blue both high and low.

It speaks of depth, your wisdom shows;

Inspires my life to know by far.

As you cover me with sunshine

While standing here tall and sure;

The light of your sunbeams divine

Takes all burdens I've endured.

IF TOMORROW COMES WITHOUT ME

If tomorrow comes without me
I would commence to be a memory
Cease when in oblivion me you bury.

If tomorrow comes and I’m not here
To dust, our true nature I was diverged
A fate, a destiny each of us share.

Whenever that tomorrow comes
As dust and mud are on the ground
I’m in the vegetation growing all around.

When I’m gone as you awake tomorrow
I’m traveling to a place where there’s no sorrow
I’ll be in bliss that I’m not sure if I’ll miss you.

I know my dear that you’ll be grieving
But your tears would be a heavy burden
To my spirit’s tender butterfly wings.

Lastly my love I beg you to forgive me
It’s not my will to leave you in this way
But in the place where I am going
For you I will be lovingly waiting.

ONLY YOU CAN MAKE THE CHANGE

By Aida Ayudoc Liyagon

As we gaze upon those stars and see them brightly shining;
We know how much happiness they have come the evening,
As man envies them why are they so much appealing?
While man on earth has so much to deal, they feel like crying?

Looking at the birds, so lovely and so dear!
Their chirping sounds sweet music in the ear,
List'ning to the courage of a child with no fear
Seems unacceptable, and your eyes in tears.

It's when you never see the reason
Never accepted, never moved on!
Your pains maybe great but you have to go on
Your fears maybe full, but many fights have won!

It's only you, it's really you!
It's just you who can make the change!
When others hate, why not choose love?
Others may keep, why not give?

Receiving is nice, but giving is better,
If you don't have penny, caring is there!
Cause if you share, then you really care
So choose a genuine smile to always wear.

Let's serve our God, thru serving others;
No to impartial servitude, let's give our best,
So when we are tired and worn out,
Our best will leave it's legacy for others!

A POET'S PRAYER

A Poet's Prayer

Oh, Supreme Being of all humanity
May you hear this poet's humble plea
May you grant us genuine humility
To live our lives in peace and unity

You are the giver of gifts and talents
As stewards you charged us to be prudent
Hone our abilities to serve their purpose
Cultivate and put them into good use

Purge our motives, purify our intentions
In our midst let there be no contentions
Remove all selfish pride, our being haughty
Deliver us from belligerence and enmity

May we revel in our brethren's triumphs
Be there for one another even in defeats
Strive to excel without slighting others
Never condescending, lift them up instead

MAESTRO YESU BEN

Title:  MAESTRO YESU BEN

Versifying Gratitude

MAESTRO YESU BEN

Who do I owe my gift for words that I
utter them in flowing ink that defies
the rules of quatrain with such arrogance
as to neglect my duty on errands?

Why do I have to feel obligated
When all I do is observe what's imbued
In the thread, laid down for me to embed
In the woven canvas of gratitude?

Challenge my mind, my muses in quatrain;
Search my knowledge, the context of my brain;
For everything I've learned, each word I write;
I am, but slow and shrewd to make things right.

To Yesu Ben, with all your plenitudes
In teaching skills, I owe my gratitude.

IN THE ALLEY OF DEATH

This piece is dedicated to Janet "Jackson" who inspired me to write this piece of fiction. May her bravery inspire us all.

IN THE ALLEY OF DEATH

There was a girl named Jackson
Weird, but Jackson was her name
She has no friends and family
whom she can call her own.
She writes rhythm and blues.
We first met at "Zax Bar Blues"
owned by a certain Mr. Mark,
whose last name I forgot.
She may not be the sharpest
but she's kinda funky and cool
Sort of a smart aleck -- at least
that's how she esteemed her self.
On her way home one day,
she found an ad plastered on a wall.
She got overly excited
so she immediately gave it a call.
It was a game of challenge
which the high and mighty schemed.
It worked exactly as planned
Jackson was victim number one
Trusting, naive and unsuspecting,
Jackson stepped up to the game,
her virtual self she presented
to this bout she has just accepted.
She had been fairly warned
but still she opted to proceed.
The poor girl Jackson is doomed!
Oh well.. Didn't she ask for it?
She invited trouble to herself.
Now she's caught up in a trap.
Ventured into unchartered territories
she thought she knew by heart.
Now she stands in the dark alley
in the nightmare she created herself.
Brainy beasts she has to confront,
totally wrecked her to bits.
Flesh torn, barely clings to her bones
Jackson got utterly deconstructed.
By the unforeseen lethal attacks,
she was completely annihilated
Her jugular vein faintly throbbed
as it spurts the last drop
while consciousness leaves her
wallowing in her own blood.
In the cold dark alley of death,
Jackson feared no trouble.
She gathered herself back, and
from her bad dream she woke up.

TIME by Yesu Ben

By Yesu Ben

Time is a tyrant, dawns will rise
the albatross will dip his wings
to chill in rippling crests and skies
his colored dins, create white rings

I try to catch him with my stare
but he'd forsake my gaze and eyes
for he is light as light as air
an apparition way up high.

 But fleeting is that moment
and ephemeral it all is
computer graphics quickly spent
or a wine's effervescent fizz

For time's a tyrant, martinet!
don't let him catch you by surprise
he'll always win the argument
his downsized look's all just disguise.

TIME

By Winnie Dacoco-Carmona

I will not wish to turn back times
i've grown my wings during the storms
My strength against the wind, rain and fire
Mastered the cold and lonely nights ...

I will not wish to turn back times
I gained wisdom to lead me
To travel roads not known before
Meet new faces, conquer new horizons...

I will not wish to turn back times
Life is a journey, a ticking clock
Love remembers, faded colors,
Mem'ries we shared in time and space
forevet mine...remnants of time goneby..

THERE'S A WOMAN IN MY MIRROR

By Donna Ashworth

There’s a woman in my mirror
And she looks a lot like me,
Though there’s lines around her eyes,
And her hair is wild and free.
She is plumper than myself,
And she is definitely grey.
Did I miss the day this happened
Has she always been this way?

And this woman in the mirror
Has an air of something calm,
Like a tide that’s going out,
And a beach that’s soft and warm.
She has seen the world in colour,
She has learned to know the truth.
There’s a wisdom in her wrinkles,
There’s a knowledge brought from youth.

And she seems to move more freely,
As though released from earthly binds.
Is she made of something lighter?
Perhaps the weight she left behind.
Like the press of expectation,
And the need to yield and bend.
I like this woman in the mirror,
She’s fast becoming my best friend.

JOURNEY TO THE END

"Have PATIENCE. WAIT - but do not sit idle;

WORK, while you are waiting;

SMILE while you are wearied with monotony;

be FIRM while everything around you is being shaken;

be JOYOUS while the ugly face of despair grins at you;

SPEAK ALOUD while the malevolent forces of the world try to crush your mind;

BE VALIANT and COURAGEOUS while people around are clinging with fear and cowardice;

do not yield to the overwhelming power of tyranny and despotism;

SERVE  THE CAUSE of democracy and freedom.
Continue your journey up to the end.
      The bright day is coming...

LOOK FOR ME IN RAINBOWS

Time for me to go now. I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when allow the world is new,
Just look for me and love me,
as you know I loved you.

Time for me to go now. I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me,
and I'll be close to you.

It won't be forever, the day we'll come and then
My loving arms will hold you,
when we meet again.

Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment and all your whole life through,
Just look for me and love me,
as you know I loved you.

Just wish me near to you,
And I'll be there with you.

As pain permeated in her soul, but why
She knew that soon she'd be in another aisle
While waiting for her time,  came God's reply.

Her time on earth was by God's might
That her wishes made known to Him for long
Her silent anguish pricked through the night
She confessed all shortcomings to whom she wronged.

She never took her life for granted like it was a game
Neither a doser of pranks nor served a dulcet treat
No one dared to poison her mind, lest you'd be blamed
She could turn your fair face into a russet rage.

TO MY TEARS

My tears, please tell me where your fountain lies
Is it in my soul, my heart, my eyes?
Is your spring near or far, I want to know
I’m hurting now and I need to soak in you.

I need a river of you to wash my fears
In its current drown all my cares
Till all my pains drain with you in the sea
Within its depths my worries die setting me free.

But tell me why, in my joys you dare to share
As I sigh in bliss, in my eyes a mist appears
Could be the dew that drops from Heaven at dawn
Making the leaves sparkle like precious diamonds
You fill my eyes that for some time I won’t see gloom.

TRIOLETS: AN INTROSPECTIVE GAZE

An illegal 6-syllable Triolet

By Yesu Ben

an introspective gaze
into a clear glass world
where untruths do not faze
an introspective gaze
that's held on to or hurled
the choice of those last days
an introspective gaze
into a clear glass world.

THE POET’S CREED

By Yesu Ben

I’ve roamed, from east to west, the world, by books and art,
have seen diversity inside my staggered heart,
To ad infinitum in voice that's sure and loud,
Expressions are wide-ranging, mixed, unique and proud

With this my pen and ink are paper bridges built,
that link the nations and recapture friendships spilt
yet failed I have among my peers and those I love
For conflicts eventuate within or from above.

I have my own path, yet it's Life I choose to serve
With poems and songs for life itself feels I deserve
This privilege and skill which few have been endowed
Not kings, not men of God, have the right to be proud.

I write my poems for love and not to have a name
For poets true aren’t steered by power, wealth nor fame.

(creating verses is how true poets show their appreciation to Life. Yet true that the perfect poem is yet to be written as yet the perfect poet is yet to be born)

HELEN

(Through the lens of my soul)
By Leah C. Dancel

Born with a blessed Hellenic beauty
Of ancestral genetic pulchritude;
Unpompous deeds are etched with gratitude -
Her name's engraved in the hearts of many.
With charm unbeguiling, her pure heart speaks
The lessons learned in life as she reflects
The many facets of human trials
She boldly triumphed without denial.
Her astute mind has been sharpened with time;
Dealing with life, its enigmas and why's;
Beyond the skies, the moon and stars, she flies;
To find the answers all that heavens chime.
Inherent goodness was bestowed on her;
Graceful and humble and with gifts to share.

APPRECIATION POEM

By Don M. Luman-ag

I.
 Inspiring beauty and brains
That's how I see our dear Ma'am Helen
Just like her namesake -- the lovely Helen of Troy
Two great women destined to be in literature

Unequalled is her brand of leadership, guts and charisma
She's an unselfish woman, a very inspiring personana
A great source of encouragement for both seasoned and aspiring poets
I find great learning from her sincere and honest critiques

She's like a mother hen who tags along her chicks
She grooms and takes them to where the good stuff is
She encourages them to soar to greater heights
By creating various opportunities for them to shine

II.
Ma'am Eureka is a triumphant discovery
A real asset in the world of poetry
She's a sophisticated lady with a heart of gold
She's got so much talent, it's plain to behold

A model, actress, and artist rolled into one
With a personality as elegant as her more than seven hundred poems
She freely lends her exceptional skill in computer graphics
To give us beautifully adorned Quotes of the Day, awards and certificates

What I really like the most about this darling
Is how she remains humble and never self-serving
Such personal quality and attribute are worth admiring
For beauty of character is what's more lasting

III.
My very good friend, Ma'am Leah Dancel
I'm glad she coaxed me to get out of my shell
She's instrumental in rekindling my literary passion
She's the one who invited me to join Filipino Poets in Blossoms

I'm a top fan of her literary works
Her poems and essays are fantabulous
They're impeccable in both grammar and style
Coffee table book-worthy, riches to be desired

It's been my wish that her collected works
Will someday soon be printed into books
For this generation and posterity to enjoy
Reading them can give everyone so much joy

IV.
If you don't want to be a so-so
You got to learn it from Sir Dex Amoroso
As his Italian-Hispanic family name implies
Dex is indeed an amorous guy

He is naturally witty, never corny
At times he can also be humorously naughty
But mind you, he is profound and serious
A loving dad of two who's drop-dead gorgeous

He's an intellectual, not your average Joe
Looks intimidating but he is humble true
I'm so impressed with his self-authored books
He's a self-made man and I'm proud to call him "bro"

V.
Another poet whom I really I look up to
Is none other than our very own Sir Crispulo
He's also a late bloomer as he divulged
Sometimes our poems exist in parallel worlds

His works I'd say, are classic and refined
Free-flowing fountain from the heart and mind
He keeps exploring other forms and styles
I am bewitched by his "prosetry" in particular

Neatly written using choicest words
Precisely crafted and skillfully measured
Sentence fluency so smooth and expressive
Quality writing worth its weight in gold

VI.
I pay my tribute to Maestro Yesu Ben
This Philippine treasure is every artist's friend
He is a faithful guardian of the beloved craft
It's a great privilege to know this noble laureate

A teacher-philosopher of unfeigned humility
You can sense in him deep spirituality
Hard to match physical and mental agility
Looking super cool at the age of sixty

He mentors by example that we may not depart
From the gold standard for literary arts
His works are a testament to his well-earned stature
A brilliant luminary in Philippine Literature

DESTINY IN HAIKU

By Leah C. Dancel

VISUAL PROMPT

Where are youthful days
Of strength, of vigour and vim?
Slow, weak and deprived.

Measured lines of life
Countenance of grief and pain.
Old age sustained me.

Depth lines of sorrow
With no one to comfort me
Golden years amiss.

I'd seen glorious days
Society flaunting untold
Beauty and my wealth.

Where all my heydays
Gone? To nowhere with the wind?
On my own, alone.

Solitary life
My company through the years
Old age, my domain.

Time and time again
Each moment in my youth spent
All squandered and lost.

Soon my breathe will cease
Into the grave I lay rest
My destiny ends.

TO MY HUMAN DAD

POSTCARD

By Don Luman-ag

People were amazed
At how I've grown to be this big
From being a tiny ginger tabby
Now I stand two feet and three

I was born of a stray mother
You welcomed into your life
They thought i've got a breed
Didn't they know I'm just well-fed?

Well cared and provided for
That's how I got my shiny fur
You always think of my welfare
Even when things weren't fair

You call me your little tiger
Who sleeps beside you in bed
We gave each other company
And comfort night and day

You told me many things
Your family didn't know about
Because you don't want them to worry
While from home you're away

Through my little eyes I've seen
Your life's ups and downs
I've witnessed how you shed tears
When it was too much to bear

Though my life had been cut short
I know how badly you're hurt
We'll be together someday, Dad
In another world reunited.

TEMPORARY PASSENGER

By Helen Sarita

When I created my own truce on refraining to veer the inclination of my confused heart and give time just to hear again and again the words of God which I have fully understood but not being lived for to the fullest I hear the calling of my pen but was uncertain on the topic of what to scribble on..
I know I was dared as a writer to quench the thirst of those who also wish to reflect on this Lenten Season. I would love to ask if the reflection they wished for is only for this season?
Or merely from now to forever more? I followed my senses whilst it gyrate
to search the unsearchable,
find the things that I have already found..
I feel incomplete yet thankful to understand
that I am human, still breathing,
I have so much time to spread love
Which is so mysterious, digging it up to the pit
but still some of my questions
remained unanswered
Life is what it is and no words could ever give the true meaning
of our purpose except of emptying ourselves in our gypsies through the many facets of life..and the wisdom of light would come and in a right and perfect time would not be vague anymore.
It will stay in our hearts
and it’s with the inhale and exhale of our breathing..the best thing is that we are still living and aware that we are just a temporary passengers of life and will soon to embark onto our own destination where the answers of our confusing thoughts is waiting.
Those who claimed they are still and certain are the hypocrites and slaves of their hidden souls.
I apologize to judge myself in claiming I am just one of the many sinners deluging on this world we dwelt in…

DIDI, DREAMING FIRE AND WIND

By Yesu Ben
(Deeply inspired by Auden)

Oh Didi dreaming fire and wind,
Would you bring me there,
Teach me your night-waltz; dance with me
Tapping out loud in lunar sea,
God’s substance innocent and free
basking in the glare..

Convince the fire that eats the night,
Not to slay the dark,
And ask the wind, the cold it brings,
The breezes on raw holy wings,
The mournful anthem that it sings
Not to kill the spark.

Comes the water from the river,
Comes it from the deep
Oh scream at it that it may cease
Its gladness soaking calm and peace
That in regret and woe increase
When in fear you weep.

Go fly so ever far away
‘til you hear the sky
Until you hear its bitter song
Remaining so devoid so long
And blasting wind and rain so strong,
That you may know why.

Lose your strength in thoughtless seeking,
Lose also your soul
And tolerance for what’s been told
As you’ve grown weary, you’ve grown old
To truths that don’t count and don’t hold,
Bits that make the whole.

Climb up now the high high mountain
Your God-seeking self
Conquer all of your illusions,
Free yourself from all delusion,
Face the sea cliff of deception
Kill your untrue self.

SOULMATES

By Crispulo Baccud Tapa

SOULMATES

In times of darkness,
I found the light of my life.
My soulmate, love, friend.

Igniting a flame,
glows beautifully sans light.
A brightness-filled life.

The flames are dancing,
like lovers in the dark night,
consumed in their love.

Two lighted candles,
burning in each other's love.
So pure is their love.

Melt in their embrace,
until they become as one.
Soulmates they become.

DON'T LEAVE ME DAD

@ DON'T LEAVE ME, DAD @
°′°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

         Dad can you see
     the tears in my eyes?
        Can you hear me
             I am crying?
     I can't live without you
       Don't leave me, Dad.
You stay the way you are
I put it on my shoulder
        I'll walk you, Dad.
     Just like you took me.

No matter how old you are
          This is my virtue,
            your presence.
     I can't live without you
       Don't leave me, Dad.
You stay the way you are
I put it on my shoulder
          I'll walk you, Dad.
        Don't leave me, Dad.
      Just like you took me.

         Floating in front of
            the eyes today,
      Only your contribution
            You are my life,
    How much have you done?
Sweat on your head and feet
     You provided the money,
       To meet all my needs
    You have never been stingy.
             Please, father,
         please don't leave
       I can't stand this pain
      I can't live without you
        Don't leave me, Dad
You stay the way you are
I put it on my shoulder
           I'll walk you, Dad
       Just like you took me
        Don't leave me,,Dad.

A WONDERFUL TREE

By Lenore Caytiles

In a nearby farm
A farmer planted a tree
He told the tree
To grow tall and sturdy.

But the tree had other plans
When he saw the tall trees around
The little tree is intelligent
He planned to be different.

He grew big at the very start
Then, midway he decided to be apart
He split into two
So he wouldn't be lonely
He would have his twin
To keep him company.

Both branches grew bigger and bigger
And people who pass by
Stopped and wonder
How these two big branches love each other
The ruffling of their leaves seem they are laughing, giggling and talking
At tlmes, they wave their small branches
They seem to be dancing.

Sometimes when a lovely pair passes by
The tree makes magic
He lures the couple to sit on the low bench where the branches split
The lovers start to whisper sweet nothings
The two big branches start giggling
Began rocking, moving like a swing.

I AM SURE

I am sure...

I am sure that tomorrow will bring a lot of surprises
The skies will be busy reforming their artistic wishes
And I'll gaze above, dreaming of reaching the skies
I wish I could draw my passion and love as they arise

Like the white clouds so unobstructedly gliding through
Quelling those desperate hearts who are feeling blue
I am sure that you'll gaze up at the skies beyond yonder
You will be engrossed to watch with my crafts' wonder

I am sure that it will shed tears in your appealing eyes
as my tender and loving thoughts will fill up the skies
To my moving art, I am sure that your soul will be drowned
And you'll love me more in the remaining years of our own
