ROCK OF AGES

by Rado Gatchalian

Like a wind be a blessing without mentioning your name
You are just a ripple that flow from here to there
You do not need to do big things to change the world
All you need is to do one small thing for one’s inner world.
And like a ripple — you shall travel quietly, without a trace
But like rocks of infinite time: you will be there
In a memory that the Universe shall keep.
Be happy simply because you make others happy.
Be lifted because you try to carry someone.
Be blessed as you become blessings to many.

Just do what you do.
For love, and the Joy will always be with you...

Forever!

IMPROVEMENT

The joy of life is living it, or so it seems to me;
In finding shackles on your wrists, then struggling till you're free;
In seeing wrongs and righting them, in dreaming splendid dreams,
Then toiling till the vision is as real as moving streams.
The happiest mortal on the earth is he who ends his day
By leaving better than he found to bloom along the way.

Were all things perfect here there would be naught for man to do;
If what is old were good enough we'd never need the new.
The only happy time of rest is that which follows strife
And sees some contribution made unto the joy of life.
And he who has oppression felt and conquered it is he
Who really knows the happiness and peace of being free.

The miseries of earth are here and with them all must cope.
Who seeks for joy, through hedges thick of care and pain must grope.
Through disappointment man must go to value pleasure's thrill;
To really know the joy of health a man must first be ill.
The wrongs are here for man to right, and happiness is had
By striving to supplant with good the evil and the bad.

The joy of life is living it and doing things of worth,
In making bright and fruitful all the barren spots of earth.
In facing odds and mastering them and rising from defeat,
And making true what once was false, and what was bitter, sweet.
For only he knows perfect joy whose little bit of soil
Is richer ground than what it was when he began to toil.

A KINDLY LITTLE DEED

I did a favor yesterday,
a kindly little deed.
Then I called all to the world
to stop and look and heed.
They stopped and looked and flattered me
in words I could not trust.
And when the world had gone away,
my good deed turned to dust.

A very tiny courtesy
I found to do today.
T'was quickly done with none to see,
and then I ran away.
For someone must have witnessed it,
For - truly, I declare -
As I sped back the stony path,
Roses were blooming there!

LOOK ON THE SUNNY SIDE

By Eldred Herbert

Why do we feel discouraged when things aren't going our way?
Why do we feel life is empty when shadows have darkened our day?
God is still in His Heaven, He still watches o'er us with love,
We have only to accept His vast blessing, given freely from above.

Why do we look on the dark side, instead of finding the light?
Why do we complain when it's raining and never a word when it's bright?
We never give thanks when things go smooth, and the pathway is clear,
It's as easy to smile as it is to frown, and grief's are lighter to bear.

Let us make it a rule to be cheerful, all day long with a song,
Let us praise our God, for putting up with us for ever so long;
He is patient and kind, none like Him can we find,
Let's give praise to His name, and put old Satan behind.

IT COULDN'T BE DONE

By Edgar A. Guest

Somebody said it couldn't be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it!

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it;"
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure,
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

LIFE LIKE A RAINBOW

There is nothing more beautiful than a rainbow
But it takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow.
If life is to be rounded and many-colored like the rainbow,
Both joy and sorrow must come to it.
Those who have never known
Anything but prosperity and pleasure
Become hard and shallow,
But those whose prosperity
Has been mixed with adversity
Become kind and gracious.

OCEAN

By Samantha C. Lourie

The ocean is such a romantic force in nature;
Waltzing with the shores of the land,
Every moment of the day.

Singing its song to the moon
Through the daytime and the night.
It is never ceasing in love

Even as the moon sleeps,
Still it's lullaby of love delights

The children that come to visit it,
And rests the weary hearts of the adults,
As it woos the sands until the moon
Comes out to play again.
