ON THE DAY I DIE ...

🖋Author|John Pavlovitz

On the day I die a lot will happen.
A lot will change.
The world will be busy.

On the day I die, all the important appointments I made will be left unattended.
The many plans I had yet to complete will remain forever undone.
The calendar that ruled so many of my days will now be irrelevant to me.

All the material things I so chased and guarded and treasured will be left in the hands of others to care for or to discard.
The words of my critics which so burdened me will cease to sting or capture anymore. They will be unable to touch me.

The arguments I believed I’d won here will not serve me or bring me any satisfaction or solace.

All my noisy incoming notifications and texts and calls will go unanswered. Their great urgency will be quieted.

My many nagging regrets will all be resigned to the past, where they should have always been anyway.
Every superficial worry about my body that I ever labored over; about my waistline or hairline or frown lines, will fade away.
My carefully crafted image, the one I worked so hard to shape for others here, will be left to them to complete anyway.
The sterling reputation I once struggled so greatly to maintain will be of little concern for me anymore.

All the small and large anxieties that stole sleep from me each night will be rendered powerless.
The deep and towering mysteries about life and death that so consumed my mind will finally be clarified in a way that they could never be before while I lived.
These things will certainly all be true on the day that I die.
Yet for as much as will happen on that day, one more thing that will happen.

On the day I die, the few people who really know and truly love me will grieve deeply.
They will feel a void.
They will feel cheated.
They will not feel ready.
They will feel as though a part of them has died as well.
And on that day, more than anything in the world they will want more time with me.
I know this from those I love and grieve over.
And so knowing this, while I am still alive I’ll try to remember that my time with them is finite and fleeting and so very precious—and I’ll do my best not to waste a second of it.

I’ll try not to squander a priceless moment worrying about all the other things that will happen on the day I die, because many of those things are either not my concern or beyond my control.
Friends, those other things have an insidious way of keeping you from living even as you live; vying for your attention, competing for your affections.
They rob you of the joy of this unrepeatable, uncontainable, ever-evaporating Now with those who love you and want only to share it with you.

Don’t miss the chance to dance with them while you can.
It’s easy to waste so much daylight in the days before you die.
Don’t let your life be stolen every day by all that you believe matters, because on the day you die, much of it simply won’t.
Yes, you and I will die one day.

But before that day comes: let us live.

JAPANESENSE

Lifted from FB

JAPANESENSE
By Crispulo Tappa

There is no swagger
in the Japanese walk
There is humility in
the Japanese bow

There is art in everything
The food they eat
The tea they drink
The Kimono they wear

The Japanese lifestyle
is never rowdy and bawdy
Its love for the wonders of nature,
the center of its architecture
Disciplined in every way
Cleanliness is a virtue
His manner, measured
in its countenance
A Haiku of his feelings
and emotions
Where honor is valued
above life
A life pruned by experience,
an art in itself
Like a bonsai tree,
elegant in its bareness.

*Japanesense is my take of the Japanese lifestyle and culture. The things that they do makes a lot of sense. Coined from two words Japanese and Sense.

SERENDIPITY
By Crispulo Tappa

Serendipitously, the fruit
of the moon came by
Feeding this hungry bird,
weak, and could not fly
For a moment pecked
and picked up the seeds
This moon is a gift for
birds of good deeds.

The moon travels to
feed a hungry child
Be quick, like the bird,
when it falls on your side
It can leave you quickly,
as quickly as it comes
Like a thief in the night,
luck goes and comes

A scene that comes so quick
Seize the moment, take a pic
The mind is set to remember
Images taken out of nowhere.

**This piece was inspired by a series of photos taken by poet/blogger Lea Dancel, a Filipina who now lives in Australia.

The pictures captured the essence of this piece or vice versa.

SHADOWS

By Crispulo Tappa

SHADOWS

In darkness there's none,
against the bright light will cast,
shadow of your past.

Live under the Light,
for your dreams to grow and  live.
In darkness it dies.

A dried leaf has one
shadow to leave when its gone.
Framed by its membrane.

Shadows follow you,
like some dark ghosts behind you.
Do not be afraid.

The shadows of trees,
will bring you some cool respite.
The trees' canopy.

At sunrise, sunset,
shadows are at its longest.
It's shortest at noon.

THE LAST GRAIN

By Jeffrey Cejero

The Last Grain
jepoy

The sand continues to drop,
Just like the rain that refused to stop.
I've witnessed the passing of seasons
Yet you never come for unknown reason.

My journey might end in any moment
Not to meet you is my greatest torment
I'm like an arrow at the end of its flight
No more momentum to reach my dream height

With my last remaining grains
I no longer accept negativity and pain
I only want to feel the beauty and wonder
And that is you, in the other side yonder

How I wish to feel your warm embrace
And hold your hands tightly, despite the time race
No regret even if it's my last grain
If only I could have you before my end!

I DREAM A DREAM

@ Crispulo Tapa

I Dream A Dream

I dream of a world where
no one goes to bed hungry
Every child born is safe in
the arms of his family
I dream of a world where
leaders negotiate and agree
On matters that matter
for the sake of humanity.

I dream of a place where
communities share
The bounties of the fields
and the glades, fair
I dream of housing dens
with rooftops of clean air
With playgrounds for
children away from danger.

I dream of leaders of nations
who lay down the laws
To govern their constituents
in equanimity and equality
I dream of a time when
hegemony is a heinous crime
When all nations have set
their meets and bounds.

I dream of a world where the
seas and oceans  are kept free
Free, beyond anyone's
control and dominion,
Declare it a common nautical
highway for you and me
Protect sea resources from
overfishing thru illegal means.

I dream of nations coming to
terms in friendly competition
In food production and
health, and in medication
Where cultures are preserved
for everyone's edification
The pursuit of knowledge is
the core of men's erudition.

I dare to dream of a world
amidst racial discrimination,
Threats of nuclear wars that
will cause men's annihilation
I live in a dream-like world
where climate change rolls
This one last dream I dream,
I pray, will change the world.

THE OUTBACK

THE OUTBACK
(PANTOUM)
By Don Luman-ag

I'm returning to the outback,
Far from nebulous city life;
To the basics I'm going back,
To rid myself of urban strife.

Far from nebulous city life,
Hear nature's mellifluous call;
To rid myself of urban strife,
It's an escapade from the fall.

Hear nature's mellifluous call,
Life is much better off the grid;
It's an escapade from the fall,
It's freedom from vicarious greed.

Life is much better off the grid,
To the basics I'm going back;
It's freedom from vicarious greed,
I'm returning to the outback.

THE LIFE I DREAM

THE LIFE I DREAM
(PANTOUM)
By Don Luman-ag

I dream to live in the mountains.
Amidst the glades and evergreens.
Cold crystal springs, gushing fountains;
A rush of freshness through my veins.

Amidst the glades and evergreens.
Covered in cool mist, dew so fresh.
A rush of freshness through my veins;
Nerves to soothe, the soul to refresh.

Covered in cool mist, dew so fresh.
They're always there through sun or rain.
Nerves to soothe, the soul to refresh.
Calming frequency to the brain.

They're always there through sun or rain.
Cold crystal springs, gushing fountains.
Calming frequency to the brain;
I dream to live in the mountains.

A BEETHOVEN'S SYMPHONY

By Leah C Dancel

Though this was submitted as a Pantoum Prompt Challenge at ILA,  I would like to dedicate this poem to our three special ladies: Susan Dancel Isip , Marlene Harkness and Gnij Lecnad-saitam .

AND to ALL AUGUST CELEBRANTS.

I drew inspiration from the World Famous Solo Violinist,  Ray Chen . The Words of the Week perfectly fit his Musical Vibrato.

A BEETHOVEN'S SYMPHONY
(PANTOUM)
By Leah C Dancel

As I strung mellifluous notes on my violin;
One nebulous night without stars and moon;
A vicarious style like aesthetic Beethoven;
Some movements made the universe swoon.

One nebulous night without stars and moon;
Darkness set my music into motion;
Some movements made the universe swoon:
It stirred memories out of oblivion.

Darkness set my music into motion;
A symphony so gentle, in harmony with my soul.
It stirred memories out of oblivion.
Past recollection aroused in whole.

A symphony so gentle, in harmony with my soul;
A vicarious style like aesthetic Beethoven;
Past recollection aroused in whole:
As I strung mellifluous notes on my violin.

HOW I WISH I COULD FLY

By Leah C Dancel

HOW I WISH I COULD FLY
(PANTOUM)
By Leah C Dancel

How I often wish I could fly.
A dream so simple that I smile.
To reach the sky on heaven's high;
I fly a hundred thousand miles.

A dream so simple that I smile.
Above the air in clouds of nine.
I fly a hundred thousand miles;
To see the brightest sun that shines.

Above the air in clouds of nine;
The kite, in me, inches t'wards;
To see the brightest sun that shines;
My dreams are bubbles heavenward.

The kite, in me, inches t'wards;
To reach the sky on heaven's high.
My dreams are bubbles heavenward.
How I often wish I could fly.

QUAINT ART

QUAINT ART

Where'er I go, I opt for nature.
To look for idyllic portraiture
The mountains possess that versant lure
Where I'm drawn to  sylvan's beauty pure.
Easel, brushes, paints and palette at hand.
I immerse deep  into quaint art treasure.

GET AWAY

By Leah C Dancel

GET AWAY

I get away to the versant edge
Overlooking the idyllic ledge
I ambled through a thick verdant hedge
With a sweeping view of landscaped sedge.
Then I heard voices near a sylvan's inn
Men imbibing gin by the river dredge.

WAVES OF TIME

By Leah C Dancel

WAVES OF TIME

What a timeless season, winter brings!
Those lonely nights I come with pondering.
When and where  are all these years gone by;
Since my children left home to start their own new life.

They're brave and strong and ready to take on the world;
With wings unfurled, and, sleeves rolled up to earn a dime.
Their confidence sanguine and future outlook bold.
I'm proud of them, they set a paradigm.

Soon my empty nest is filled with miracles
With tiny feet and hands and sweet happy faces
I waived away loneliness,  pain and regrets
Alone in the past,  where they all belong.

Life has a way to recompense my woes
Like the tide of the sea that ebbs and flows,
Beneath THE WAVES OF TIME, life must go on.
And let the crimson skies at dusk move on.

My twilight years are spent with  care
Feeling grateful for all seasons I bear
Finding purpose without chasing shadows
For I'll abide the whispers of the heart.

FOND MEMORIES OF GROWING UP

By Myr Reyes E Tejada

Mom was my own wonder woman
With her I was in wonderland
It’s her who made my world go round.

Growing up, my days were filled with fun
Cares and worries were never around
Home was my heaven under the sun.

With pieces of stems, I curled my hair
With the sap of leaves, painted my nails
Licked red lollipops to tint my lips.

Was foreign to nutrients and gourmet
Dreamed to feast on chocolate candy
Prayed for cake and ice cream every day.

I ran around the neighborhood
With grimy face from eaten foods
And meldrop peeping from my nose.

My idea of a great hangout
A nearby field chasing dragonflies
Then going home scratching insect bites.

When I got hurt, screamed and cried out loud
In joy and glee, noisily guffawed
Never cared what poise is about.

And then I discovered romance and love
At fifteen and hey, it did hurt so bad!
Was told it was just part of growing up.

How I wish I could recapture
Bygone growing up days’ joyous galore
Turn back time and be young once more.

ORANGE

You plant it
I'll pick it.
You peel it
I'll carry it.
You squeeze the juice
I'll drink it from the glass.
No sugar added
I'm sweet enough.
It's yellow colour
As mellow as the old sun.

Orange
Where have you been?
Summer through Winter
I'm still here
I need Vitamin C
To sustain my vitality.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNI

6 August 2023

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNI

TO THE LADY of the HOUSE
Who gives her all.
A connoisseur of literature and arts
Breaking all barriers
Where culture unites
And creativity multiplies.
Not sitting on laurels
Unrelenting to challenges
She takes everything
In the verve of learning
By teaching us how
In answer to our questions
The four W's in literary style
With some exchange
Of ideas,  lateral thinking
And the crafting of hands,
Heart, mind and soul.
The gate is open
Family, friends and strangers alike.
Her trust is unlimited
For whom she considers fit
To wear her shoes
And sit on her table.
She fails not to appreciate
Every bite you offer.
So here we are
Knocking on your door
To greet you an old fashioned
HAPPY BIRTHDAY and
Many happy returns of the day.

Thanks to everything you do!

MONUMENT of REFLECTIONS

MONUMENT of REFLECTIONS
(Elegiac Reflections)

There's uncertainty when future is bleak
With stoic weather and threatening storm.
The howling winds crash in peril, and, break
The surging ocean waves without conform.

Chaos followed after the storm pass by.
The aftermath laid, looked impossible.
Such epiphany of old days gone  by.
Of elegiac memory I recall.

The sonorous call from the wind breeze takes -
Me to recollect that daunting past life
Of never ending  struggles; I can't shake
Off my mind every time I witness strife.

The wanderer in me come home at last
Where peace is my abiding guide and light.
All fears and griefs I set aside and cast
In monument of reflections - I write.

Feedback

"Your poem is consistent in its melancholic theme of impending weather disaster that reminds you of a mournful past laden with difficulties and sadness.  Then comes the realization that you are now at peace and have to cast all negativity in a MONUMENT OF REFLECTIONS.  Note:  I would write out the word "reflection" in its plural form with an 's' at the end." ~Mariquita Nosce Tandoc

A RAINBOW SCARF

By Leah C Dancel

A RAINBOW SCARF
(An Ode To Sunsets)

Though we're into the twilight zone;
The sunset has not yet gone;
It lingers long in the horizon,
Waiting for us to come along.
As the ambient light spreads its glow,
A rainbow scarf appears out of the blue.
It decks  the sky in twirling motion;
A gymnast's dream to hold in possession:
A pathos of passion, a prism of triumph.
With sunsets' own capricious power,
No layman can ever fathom.
This moment I'll long to remember.
