MY SPECIAL ANGEL

By Leah C Dancel

MY SPECIAL ANGEL
(A 13th birthday tribute to Selima)

No longer an infant
Wrapped in swaddling clothes.
No longer a baby
Pampered and smothered.
No longer a little doll
Who blinks and cries;
Who dances to music
And amuses the olds;
But, a growing child.
On that day your little feet
Boldly planted those tiny first steps;
I was glad to see them first
When you suddenly rose in volition
Acting like a man on the moon,
Who took one leap for mankind!
Along came the time
When letters of alphabets
Were uttered in your babe's mouth:
Da-da-da was uttered first,
Then Ma-ma-ma followed suit.
From there, I heard
Blubbers and chatters
Of a chirping bird on the tree.
I remember the confidence
As you go up and down the stairs,
fearless and carefree!
And like a kite in the sky
You almost fly to the highest
as you jump, as you romp
On the bed and on the couch,
As if they're mighty trampolines!
I also remember
Those trying moments
Your kind of trait
Fitted in your blood
Since childbirth.
Fretting treats from you
That I'd never seen acted out
By your Mum and your Aunt
When they're on the same age
as you at that stage.
Crying times of pain and discomfort
Were niggling thoughts, too distraught
For me to contain, that cut
through  my heart
As I saw you endure
Your infantile agony.
Yet, your little spirit bravely
Displayed resilience and strength.
I've seen days of family excursions,
Outings and picnics
And having fun out in the sun:
In the playfield kicking balls,
Sliding down on the playground,
Playing hide and seek
Instead of Peek-a-Boo;
The beach and the pool,
The fine sand and the beach ball.
I've seen your mountain climbing skill
And going down the slippery dip
on tall and rough dry grasses.

Well how quick you've grown!
What is four years anyway?
As time swiftly flies,
And here you are - at thirteen!
Almost a grown up lady, but,
A sweet, refine young lady.
Still your Dad's Apple in his eyes
And Mum's wealth of pride
Marco's most cherished big sister
Lola's adored angel in her life.
Our family's source of joy.

Happy Birthday Selima πŸŽΆπŸŽ‚πŸŽ❤️

LISTEN

Stay silent; listen
to the voices of the sea .
The songbirds in chorus
are chanting the mystical legends
of the Dreamtime ancestors
that are known to be our legacy.
The house of Bennelong
Is calling, take heed
O my people
Do not ignore the counsel
Of the elders
Their precipience and sagacious minds
Cannot be underestimated.
Understand their moral precepts
The torch to guide you
when you walk through darkness
For the Light is wiser than the day.

A CHILD'S HEART

Post by permission

My Tribute Poem for World Poetry Day 2023 ✍️✍️✍️
A Special Tribute for Children

A Child's Heart
By:Ma.Denia A. Claret
Country: Philippines

The vessel of light in a child
The child within us, loving and wild
She fills us with beauty of creation
And open the world, full of hope, possitivity and action.

She teaches us the value of self-respect and vulnerability
Letting go of the facade, with courage and humility
She magnifies a gem of wisdom and kinship of love
Extract a vision of beauty, a glimpse of future beyond.

O' immanent One, a bringer of light
A thousand suns, magnificent bright
She embodies in every age the absolute transformation
She empowers the Presence with joy, love and compassion.

THE LONG SHADOW

Inspired by Jearim A Dancel Jr

Thank you Jadj Dancel for your beautiful reminder.

When an Image becomes Poetry.

Yes! Photography or any form of Visual Arts, to me, is POETRY. It's about a picture in the absence of words.

The Long Shadow
Comes before me;
I have nothing to fear,
She's my guide to follow.
Wherever she goes
I'm right behind her.
She leads in the light;
No darkness can take over.

KNOWS NO BOUNDARY

By Jeffrey D. Cejero

Knows No Boundary

My light radiates because of you.
In your time of darkness,
I'll be there shining for you.
When you are feeling cold and lonely,
I'll be there ready to give you my warmth and soul.
When all the stars leave you
And all refused to shine upon you,
I'll be there willing to gift you all the fireflies
And shape them like my undying heart
Into a towering tree of dreams and reality.
I'm even willing to borrow light from the sun
Just to make sure you receive enough light in darkness.
But there are times that I have to wane or gone for a glimpse
For you to enjoy on seeing more stars
I want you to explore the heaven  Hoping you can reach and pluck these seemingly impossible stars
Your happiness and success are my treasure chest of joy
When I notice that the number of stars in heaven starts to decline
That's the time I'll start shining on you once again.
I seemed to disappear in the sky
But the truth is I'm letting your dream stars to shine.
I love you so much so I'll never be a hindrance in outshining them.
Just remember I'm always by your side even I'm in a distance
For my love to you knows no boundary.
It could transcend through space, time and even the heaven!

WORLD POETRY DAY

21 March 2023

Happy World Poetry Day!

there are syllables
that count the narrow steps
to mountains,
there are voices
that if a child listens
it becomes either
raindrops
or rainbow.

you choose that fluid solid letters
and you become a soul

sleeping under a blanket
with no sorrow nor regret:

you become a poet whose dreams
are words between you and those falling stars.

HAPPY WORLD POETRY DAY!

Like the sweetest honey on your lips
Every syllable is a gospel of divine,
Of heavenly and earthly rhymes:
Spoken words are spoken because one is free.
Whether you have faith or none,
Your stories are made of metaphorical end —

Because one chooses to embrace beauty over death.

SONG For The BRIDGE

21 March 2023
Happy 91st Birthday!!!

HE Horne, ‘Song for the Bridge’, February 1932:

Behold the Arch of Wonder
With sunset all aglow
When sea and sky bring heaven nigh
And tides eternal flow;
O bridge of Light to greater height
Thy call shall ever be
Where beauty dwells and casts her spells
In Sydney by the sea.

History:

On this day in 1932, the Sydney Harbour Bridge opened to the public. The event marked the end of almost a century of speculation and planning around a bridge or tunnel that would cross the harbour.

In 1922 the New South Wales Parliament passed the Sydney Harbour Bridge Act. Construction began on the approaches to the span in 1923 and on the bridge itself in 1925. More than 1600 people worked on the bridge during its construction.

In 2017 more than 200 trains, 160,000 vehicles and 1900 bikes used the bridge every day.

MANILA

Maraming beses na kitang nilayasan
Iniwanan at iba ang pinuntahan
Parang babaeng ang hirap talagang malimutan
Ikaw lamang ang aking laging binabalikan

Manila, I keep coming back to Manila
Simply no place like Manila
Manila, I'm coming home

I've walked the streets of San Francisco
I've tried the rides in Disneyland
Dated a million girls in Sydney
Somehow I feel like I  don't belong

Hinahanap hanap kita Manila
Ang ingay mong kay sarap sa tenga
Mga jeepney mong nagliliparan
Mga babae mong naggagandahan

Take me back in your arms Manila
And promise me you'll never let go
Promise me you' ll
never let go
Manila, Manila
Miss you like hell, Manila
No place in the world like Manila
I'm coming home to stay.

Beautiful memories of Manila with my cousin Jo Paulo's Family and FIS. And the church I worshipped in, the fellowship with Christian Youth group, friends and other relatives though not constant. My spontaneous solo travel around the Metropolis, my job at Redman and Get Well Drugs (San Juan and Quiapo), my landlady at Malate (Lola she was to me, a kindhearted elderly Chinese lady), my Apartment mates in Pasay, friendly staff at General Post Office Lawton, Postal Manager at Ermita Mr. Joe Carino, the Manila Bulletin, Metro Theatre Kodak Shop and my sister Ruth in San Mateo, Rizal, my workmates, my bosses, and office guests. Everything  about Manila. And Aling Noemi's, kumare who made my wedding dress, my stepdaughter's lovely dress, and my fiance's wedding Barong style shirt same with my step son. And Joe Lim of PAL who facilitated my VIP entry to the plane and most of all, Retired RAF Major Pat O'Donnell.

Raquel Geralde Villanueva you are at the top of the list! I'm forever grateful to you.

Featured Poet: Jeffrey Cejero

Imoorted from FB
15 March 2022

From Admin's Desk:

PRISM of LIFE is an educational expository of a School Teacher in his virgin exploration in the world of Poetry.

Authored by Jeffrey Cejero, he expounded:

"Life is like a prism. A prism splits white light into seven colors. Each color is equally beautiful and has its distinct characteristics. It symbolizes something and sometimes it affects our emotions or our thinking. Like prism, life is colorful. It is not only made of happiness and sweetness but sometimes sadness and bitterness. If you plan to write, explore this prism of life. Don’t just limit yourself to one color because a rainbow is only beautiful because of its various colors."

Book Review :
By Migrant Writers of Hong Kong

A lovely Monday evening Migrant Writers of Hong Kong!

It's another segment of our Monday #ONSPOTLIGHT and our feature writer/poet is all the way from our very own Philippines, the #PrismofLife book author himself Sir Jeffrey Cejero

https://www.facebook.com/jeddacanay

Sit back and relax and join us reading his one a kind self BIO and achievements.

A day before the beginning of my everything
A voice asked me, “Of all the elements, which do you like best?”
I immediately answered, “Fire!”
The voice kept quiet so I elaborated my answer.

"I am fascinated with the sun and the stars.
I love everything that is shining and warm.
I am afraid of darkness and loneliness.
I don’t want anything that is cold."

“Why you didn’t choose water?” the voice asked.
“Water is life and I love it, too
But I want to follow my own desire and plan.
Unlike water, I follow my own flow and way.”

“How about earth?” the voice continued asking.
“Earth has a strong foundation and supports life
But I want to be free, I don’t want to be mountains nor rocks
For they are not allowed to move freely.”

“Move freely? Then choose air,” the voice was trying to persuade me.
“Air has absolute freedom but still fire is the best.
Fire, unlike other elements needs to be controlled.
Every being has power and this power needs to be controlled and guided.”

“Tell me, what do you do most of the time?” the voice continued asking.
“I love reading all the works of civilization
And I love playing chess! Do you know that game?
I also love stargazing and watching the sunset.”

“I love visiting the land of Maharlikas.
I love staying at the foot of Cordillera mountains.
I love the story of Biag ni Lam-ang…”
Then the voice disappeared… and I was born!

I was born in the Pacific Ring of Fire, in the land of Maharlikas specifically to where Lam-ang was born.
My parents named me Jeffrey Cejero and "Jeff" is my nickname.
I grew up in a small village at the foot of Cordillera mountains.
As a child, I grew up full of explosive energy, naughty but kind.

My energy is limitless and my smile is very warm.
At present, I am a light to hundreds of learners and to my own three kids.
In my vacant time, I love reading and playing chess.
Last July 2021, I just discovered that there was a twinkling poet in my soul.

I am a member to many Facebook poetry groups
And they have helped me reach for one of my dreams-
That is to publish my own book, “Prism of Life”.
I am blessed for having these loving homes as a poet.

I’m a public-school teacher in the Division of Pangasinan II. I am a multigrade teacher handling both grades 5 and 6 as my advisory classes and the school I serve is one of the last mile schools in the country. I’m one of the few teacher-scholars in the country. I am a master teacher who was sent to University of the Philippines- Diliman Campus to obtain the Certificate in Multigrade Teaching. This coming June 2022 will mark my 20 years as a teacher.

My work as a teacher requires great planning and strategy. I don’t just teach one class as my advisory class but rather I handle 2 grade classes. During face-to-face classes, I am equipped to handle and teach these 2 classes at the same time. Our school is one of the few last mile schools in the Philippines meaning it is a school with multigrade classes, limited number of teachers and do not have complete sets of school furniture and lacking laboratory tools and equipment.
Sometimes, I’m also invited as a resource speaker during school, district, division and regional seminars. I’m also a successful coach with winnings up to the national level. I have already developed learning materials in the division, region and national levels.

I never thought I would be a poet someday and my talent in poetry was only discovered accidentally. All I thought, I didn’t know how to compose a poem. My first poem was written in June 2021 and it was written in Filipino. I did this composition because I was a national writer at that time and I was assigned to develop a learning activity sheet to be used by every multigrade learner in the country. I just thought at that time to write a simple Filipino poem because that was the best way to accomplish my assigned task. Then, in July 2021 I joined to different facebook poetry groups to develop my writing skill in poetry and it was this time that I started to compose English poems. My skill in poetry was purely enhanced by these poetry groups and also through self-study.

I think I’m very good in writing poems with sad theme but if you’re going to read my compositions, they are well-distributed to various topics and themes. I love to write with restrictions. I found this as very challenging. This is the reason I love experimenting and composing poem with different forms.

I love playing chess. I love reading novels, history and science. I also love watching animation.

My family is my number one inspiration for writing. My ability to compose is mostly limited to my feelings and my eagerness. If I’m not in the mood, it’s so hard for me to write. My family, my eagerness to learn and my surroundings are usually my inspirations for writing.

Yes, I am already a published author and my book is entitled, “Prism of Life: A Collection of 100+ Poetry Forms”.  I also just finished moderating and compiling an anthology of about 1000 poems written in 100 forms by 100+ poets and poetesses around the world. This anthology will be released at the end of March or in April.

This poetry book, “Prism of Life: A Collection of 100+ Poetry Forms” shows various examples of poems written in different forms. Some of the poetry forms included in this book are haiku, triolet and various forms of sonnet.
This poetry collection is appropriate for aspiring writers who want to study and learn more about poetry and its forms, and therefore, it is educational. This book is entitled “Prism of Life” because it is a mash-up of various themes that blend with the writer’s emotions. With the help of his family, who created the illustrations and did the editions, and some of his friends in poetry, this is unquestionably a must-read book for everyone.
This book acts like a prism where light is poetry and poetry forms are the colors in spectrum.
This book is available on amazon, bookemon and lulu.

Writing is life. It continues to improve as long as there is life. Writing stops when life stops but both leave a great legacy. Life leaves memories while writing leaves immortal wisdom.
I am more a writer than a speaker. My skill in writing is one of my strengths as a teacher. There are so many teacher-works related in writing. Writing poems enhances my skill in writing and helps me a lot in teaching. My skill in poetry helps me in developing learning materials which is a great help in providing meaningful learning experiences to my learners.

Life is like a prism. Don’t just limit yourself to one color because a rainbow is only beautiful because of its various colors.

Fly higher against the current of wind
Sail further against the ocean waves
And dig deeper even against a mountain of rocks
For success is only for those who never give up!

THANK YOU MY FRIEND

By Don Luman-ag

I want to thank you my friend
You stood by me until the end
For being there while I'm in pain
When trials pour like falling rain

For checking on me with concern
Moment's need you quicky discern
Your thoughtfulness I won't forget
Our friendship is without regret

Your sincerity warms my heart
It drives away my fears and doubts
Your virtual presence cheers me up
You're like an angel sent from above

May I be able to pay it forward
To those in need may I do likewise
Heavenly blessings be your reward
May you find favor in God's eyes

Sail away to the ocean
In its midst you'll feel
The great power of the Creator
Above it is the unlimited covering
Of the skies ...where His eyes
Are hidden from you ...
Strange power of the Maker
Is felt when you see the beauty
He created in that vastness of water
That never seems to end...
Your smallness might be
Of no significance to you,
To Him, you are as big as
The vast ocean... within you.

A SURVIVOR

By Duoi Ampilan

Sailed through stormy waters.
Walked through the darkest nights.
Survived the toughest seasons.
Gone through difficult circumstances.

Touch my heart, a boulevard of broken dreams.
Look into my eyes and see where I have been.
Talk to me and hear the stories of a dreamer.
Touch my soul and discover a survivor.

IMAGINE A WORLD

By Dr Deena Padayachee

*Imagine a world*

Imagine a world where the warriors are infused with wisdom,
Imagine a world where soldiers, in their hundreds of thousands refused to be
invaders, ravagers, and murderers,
refused to put their precious lives on the line for psychopaths...
Imagine a world... 🌎 πŸ™πŸ½

Imagine a world where greed is as obnoxious as war.
Imagine a world... 🌎 πŸ™πŸ½

Imagine a world where children are loved,
Where ladies are celebrated,
Where men are worthy of love,
Where the elderly are cherished and adored.
Imagine a world... 🌎 πŸ™πŸ½

Imagine a world where bigotry is eschewed,
Where violence is abhorred,
Where racism is seen as the domain of the retarded.
Imagine a world... 🌎 πŸ™πŸ½

Imagine a world where greed is outlawed
And arrogance is the arena of the absurd.
Imagine a world... 🌎 πŸ™πŸ½

Imagine a world where it is possible to see beauty  in all the cultures
And music plays a tattoo of love in our spirits,
Imagine a world... 🌎 πŸ™πŸ½

R E A L I Z A T I O N S

By Myr Reyes E Tejada

R E A L I Z A T I O N S

I’m done with trying to be wise
Giving insights, ignored advise
Quite exhausting to feed the mind
Failed to unlock the eyes of the blind
Nor touch the heart of the carefree man
Unable to heal his cracked eardrum.

Today’s world stands on grounds unstable
Shallow foundations easily crumble
When the wind blows it shakes and trembles
Clothed in a display of bright apparels
And loves everything that sparkles
The root cause of all its troubles.

Its wide opened eyes’ only focus
Are the colors, neglects the shadows
Hears the music but could not dance
To the beat that the chords demands
Tastes the sweetness, smells the fragrance
Yet contentment it never finds.

Thus, I’ve decided to just stay
In a garden, bask in its beauty
Sing with the birds, the bees, the breeze
Dance in the wind with the flowers, the trees
Maybe then the world I could befriend
We’ll cherish each other till the end.

SOCIETY of MY DREAMS

By Lucky Stephen Onyah

#Society_Of_My_Dreams

I seek the society of my dream
One my heart earnestly desires
The world of equality by default
A city where all are innately kind

I crave for a people whose worth
Isn't determined by colour of skin
Nor is one's spot decided by race
But by one's service to his fellow

I look forward to a healthier world
Where all are same tongue & kind
Irrespective of geolocation or sex
Iota of discrimination do not exist

Earnestly wish for heaven on earth
Home where men loves from heart
And all creations thrive in harmony
Each looking for the good of others

Where word for death/war unheard
Nor has it occurred to any to cheat
As all there is are joy, love, peace...
An eternal day where night can't be

HELL

By Leah C Dancel

Hell!
Where is hell?
Let me help you
find hell...
William Shakespeare
as the navigator
said:
“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”

The late richest man
of Australia
once said:
"I'd been there...
And there's nothing
there!"

Just a thought...
while everyone talks
about war ...
Ukraine and Russia?

To the word of
Maestro Joffre Balce :
"History Is Our Witness"

DON'T

By Jeffrey Cejero

Don't!
jepoy

Don't laugh at me
If I give everything you asked.
Don't tease me
If I spin at the whim of your hands.
Don't call me stupid
If I act under your control.
As you see, I'll do everything for you.
I'll do my best to pick all the flowers you like.
I'll do my best for you to see only the rainbow and not feel the storm.
I'll do my best for you to smile and be happy
Because your smile and happiness give color to my life.
Just seeing you, made my day complete
And my night filled of good wishes and dreams.
Don't laugh at me if I give you the world
For that's really me--
If I love, I give everything
Because if ever in the future we won't make it,
I want you to remember me always.
Every time you wake up in the morning,
Every time you witness a blossoming flower,
Every time you taste a chocolate,
Every time you watch the sunset, you sleep, you smile, you cry or you breathe,
I am always what you think for I was the one who showed you
The true care, the true happiness, the true love.
That at one time, there was a fool who loved you so much
As if you were the center of the universe.
You will definitely miss this kind and warm love
But listen to me my dear even once,
"I love chasing stars but I don't pick them up once they fall
For I no longer see in them the light that I used to love."
