IT WAS A LIE

By Lucky Stephen Onyah

#It_Was_A_Lie

    Once followed my heart
   But was gladly led astray
   And beguiled love’s blind

   Am taking the bold step
   Walking away from it all
   It has been long coming

  For what we shared was
 Though a wonderful li(f)e
 Lessons I will never forget

AN ANGEL IN HUMAN FORM

By Lucky Stephen Onyah

#Tribute_To_Mother_Theresa

#An_Angel_In_Human_Form

When too much is not just enough
Is her untamed quests to do more
An irresistible compassion display
Driven not by ego but agape love
Lay down own life/time for others
Living to make others the better
Taking strides with sages/angels

One transcending human frailties
Whose joy is to see others thrive
Soft spoken with great deed done
Choose voluntary poverty to riches
A royal fraternising with the lowly
Pursuing service for humanity first
Humbling her contemporaries in all

Prefer poverty stricken country home
Gave hope to orphans and dejected
Never sort praise of men nor kind word
Never ever responded to threat by any
Effused warmth with her facial smiles
A shining light in a third world country
Whose glow was beyond skin and time

A TEACHER IS ALWAYS WRONG

[Lifted from Mychell Malupa's post.]

A TEACHER IS ALWAYS WRONG

When a teacher lectures or discusses in class they say she is boring,
When she gives activities to her students, they say she is lazy.

When she teaches the traditional way,
they say she is not innovative;
When she introduces games or drills,
they say her class is unruly or noisy.

When she scolds students,
they say she is a "terror";
When she doesn't mind her students,
they say she is lenient.

When she submits reports early,
they say she is a "stressor";
When she submits reports late,
they say she is inconsiderate.

If she doesn't get promoted,
they say she doesn't know how to document her activities;
If she gets promoted,
they say she is only good at preparing papers.

When she always obey the principal/head teacher,
they say she is a "pet";
If she does things on her own or express her opinion,
they say she is hard- headed and proud;

When she stays beyond office hour in school,
they say she doesn't know how to manage her time;
If she goes home immediately after class, they say she lacks commitment.

A TEACHER seemed always WRONG but when she/he dies,
NO ONE can take her/his place
in the HEARTS of those people
whom she/he has TOUCHED.

I AM A TOURIST

By Myr Reyes E Tejada

I AM A TOURIST

I travel everywhere via my books
Ride written words to distant nooks
Each line a train chugging down the track
A roaring jet, a racing car, a rolling yacht.

Right there is my tour itinerary
A prologue of the sites I would see
Thrilling wonders, an exciting overview
Of experiences beautiful and new.

Every page then, takes me on a flight
Reach galaxies veiled from my naïve eyes
Soar heights where I would not dare fly
Discover secrets that cosmos hides.

Each chapter takes me on a cruise
Surf the troughs and crests of ocean waves
Play hide and seek in underwater caves
With sharks and dolphins befriend mermaids.

I could rewind the clock or do a time lapse
Talk with the sages from millenniums past
Be alive in the world a century hence
Past, present, future, I could experience.

I also have my own travelogue
In the leaves of the epilogue
Inspiring me to keep on and move
Find other places where I could groove.

BEYOND THE DREAM

By Hum Ale

Beyond the Dream

I cannot leap since I’m engulfed
Within the domain of war
A demarcation in my mind it jostles
This land is of mine to savior the heart says
As when the wind caresses the whiff of vinegar
This wide prairie land in my eyes
I spread my wings as if freedom is with me
Poignancy I feel since the cloud masquerades
The silvery fliers to the land
I squeak, my sweet child transfixes
My mind dwells in qualm
Smothered by dark dream
With the silhouette of smoke that billows
The callous winds caresses as the siren bellows
Hearts shrieks in yonder
It’s just within an inch of distance
Where I might feel safe
The land may not be of mine to tread
As a different identity I’m marked
Can I quell my shredded heart?
I wonder if the same place
I would embrace with my heart
And find the same palpitation
Over my tattered body that glorifies
For one benign home to cook edible foods
And, peace would shower
With an arrival of a divine messenger
Even when I can’t think of my age as years drift
The sunset might tell in the feeble winter
To not remember the hymn of a minnow
That withers along with the relic of debris
Somewhere far in my home

THE PERFECT SOCIETY

By Myr Reyes E. Tejada

THE PERFECT SOCIETY
(“Solitude is sometimes the perfect society”: John Milton)

I, myself and me
My favorite company
This great assembly
Lives in perfect harmony
Enjoying tranquility.

It’s a league where we
Could agree to disagree
Where we could all be
Who and what we are truly
Comfortably every way.

This unique posse
Is the perfect society
When serenity
Unites the heart and psyche
The spirit, soul and body.

The golden silence
Appeals to God of Heaven
To come and listen
Heal a heart that is broken
And restore it once again.

THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH FOOD IN DENTURES

Lifted from Poetry Australia
Peter Thorpe

My dentist sends a reminder for check-ups with a little poem in it. I got there half an hour early in very hot weather yesterday afternoon, and decided to write my own little ditty and license it to them free of charge to use. 20 minutes later, this was scribbled up on a spare sheet of paper given to me by the receptionist.

THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH FOOD IN DENTURES

Mon-20-Feb-2023

If you give your teeth a checkup,
long before they’re wearing down;

You might well prevent a filling,
maybe even save a crown.

We can clean the built up calculus,
and stop the spreading plaque;

So your mouth won’t feel uncomfortable,
while sleeping in the dark.

We use local anesthetics,
and you will not feel the drilling,

In the case of situations
that could need a buckle filling.

If you’re needing explanations,
we can show you on the screen.

We shall test your bite with X-rays,
much more clearly to be seen.

We’ve got Hi-Caps up and running,
so it’s easier to pay;

With some help from your provider paying us that very day.

Our receptionists are friendly,
and they send reminder text,

On the day before we see you.
Why not book a check-up next?

AFLOAT

By Rosie Caristea

A F L O A T

Dare not to ask where I am going
Nor to question where I came from
You would never want to know
Neither you'll understand.
For I am a ship in the ocean
with this fragile sail above
My anchor knew the darkest depth
It has touched beyond the sand.

I fought the waves of turbulence
Rest on the surface when it's calm
I ain't no friend to bad fishes;
I always clammed up like the clams.
During the days of scorching heat
when my body was almost sun-baked
I sail in pain without a word;
I dare not cry to ask for help.

The ocean knew my every weakness
It helps develop all my strength
My destination though I'm certain
I am dependent on the wind.
I have been here from the beginning
Without a place in the vast land
From port to port I moored to rest
I've been at home but not welcome.

Sapphire Sky
By Melany Amante Mabao Maguindanao

My lipstick mark on my cup...
It's glaring red under the light.
A smile curved in the corner...
A thought figured out of nowhere.

Life rushing in the freeway...
On the fast lane, in the highway.
Some got caught up in the race...
Others came crashing on a daze.

The lines on my face...
Though time can't erase...
The space of my days...
I can fill with colorful laces.

I'll never join the stampede,
I won't live the life they craved.
I'll listen to my spirit calling...
On the hillside, my sapphire sky  is waiting!

NUTTY HEART'S DAY

By Leah C Dancel

Revised Version:

Reminiscing a span of humour on a wet-draped Love Heart's Day last year, the day Irene and Matt chose to say "I do" in a simple ceremony held at Sydney Opera House. On the way to the Reception... there's an encounter happening at the backdrop of the International Passengers Terminal, The Rocks (Circular Quay).

*****

NUTTY HEART'S DAY

Let the last teardrops fall
Let it melt in heavy rainfall.
Merciless, unforgiving rainfall
Let grief and sorrow befall.

Walk, even I, walk
Alone on this fluvial day
Cold and trembling
In damp weather, despair.

Eyes welling; vision dimmed
The cobblestone pathway
No one can see
Steps slowing in waters deluged.

There's a voice I heard calling
I saw a stranger walking t'wards me
Halfway through the pelting drops
From the sky, as destitute as he.

We stopped midway and he gazed
To find me clad in blue
And he, in pristine immaculate white,
Bespoke of a sailor's suit.

In fine manner with rapport ease
He said, hello with a sheepish smile:
"Today's Valentine's Day
Can I have a kiss, please!"

I was taken aback by his fresh demeanor
He looked so decent and dignified.
Was caution thrown into the air?
Like a Mother Cat, I extended a paw.

There under that damned rainfall
Two adjusted umbrellas aligned
Two foolhardy rushed a peek on each cheek
A coy Thank You, I love you was read on his lips.

A bit of chit chat and what's not told;
I bid adieu for I was in a hurry
To the wedding feast, I must not tarry;
It wasn't far from where we stood.

Was it serendipity that we should meet?
For a brief encounter on that Heart's Day?
Amidst the torrents, visible in the fog
He asked one more kiss, one more time.

(On the lips,
And Hell, No!
Not, a fat chance!)

Red Wine & Red Roses

By Usec Epi Densing, DepEd
14 February 2023

Red Wine & Red Roses

Red wine full of definitions
But certainly it destroys all inhibitions
A symbol of blood by reason of color
Yet when taken with a thud, one becomes a man of valor

Here comes the red roses
held by a gladiator
Trembling hard and unsteady, afraid of an alligator
Red roses that tell lots of meaning
I'm quite sure it's never demeaning

While wines and roses that are red,
may denote bravery and love
They also show much imagery that one would want to indulge

As the spirit of the wine and beauty of the roses start to catapult
So is the beginning of fondness and warmth
With intimacy and endearment that cannot be dwarfed

On the eve of the eternal day
Time and the last day settles
As life eternal has just begun
At the portal of great beyond
In the realm above terrestrial
            Have censer of eternal flame
Across are sages of all ages
              Those who lived and served
Eternal flame of refiners’ fire
             One which men are tried/fine
As long as men walked earth
For of this day scripture warn
Blessed are those who heed
               And adhered, living virtuous
Sacrifice innate urge for vice

HAVE YOU

By Percy Roxas

HAVE YOU

Have you ever heard a swan sing,
What a sound a dirge can do,
It can shred your heart to bits and pieces,
When it belts like whip with a harmony or two.

Have you ever seen a sparrow cry,
Felt a tear that shoots and hits,
When an arrow pierces bones to white and dry,
It can take you bottom to the pits.

Have you ever touched a hand that's bleeding,
Seen a soul that's lost its grit
When the darkness goes all red not pitch black,
And the flower you hold becomes like a wreath.

Have you ever walked alone and weary
A tsunami strong is about to land
It's like waiting for the nevermore, but heed this:
There'll be always footprints in the sand.

SOME THINGS

By Estelle Cortes

Some things take their own sweet time,
Like petals of a flower unfolding,
Like bees pollinating.
Even the ebb and flow of the tide,
Are  dependent on the Moon.

Some things are beyond our control,
Some things can't be grasped,
Some things can't be forced
Like the orgasmic gasps of lovers
In the throes of making love.

So I put my trust in Fate,
That the Universe puts me
Where I am meant to be,
At certain points when I just want to rebel
No matter how defiant I may be.

So I bow my head and say:
Let thíngs be.
Destiny will have its say.
I'm just your soldier,
Please lead the way.
And humbly I say,
So mote it be.

KINDRED FELLOWSHIP and MEMORIES

By Leah C Dancel

KINDRED FELLOWSHIP and MEMORIES

Memories are beautiful to keep
And when you discover how the world
Becomes smaller, you will appreciate
That the people you never met before
You met them in a strange land
And even become your friend.
Without knowing that you were connected in special circumstances
Through common and familiar names
That defined your spiritual connectivity long years before
Much less, since childhood.
Today, I found that, just that...
Over a cup of coffee...
With a dear friend who has been my constant guide
And whose association and fellowship I do adore.
In this modern times, it's hard to find
A proverbial woman.
This friend of mine is.
God indeed has a very special way
Of putting us in the right place
At the right time, embraced
By special people who happened to be a good friend
In every sense of the word proven by time.
When all these times, we tend to be desperate meeting our spiritual kindreds
Little did we know that one person
Is that kindred who is beside you all along the way.
What more proof can we ask that God moves in a very special way?
And today, it makes me more grateful to Him as I always am!

PHILATELIST'S PSALM

Lifted from Philippine Stamp Collectors' Society

PHILATELIST'S PSALM

Stamp collecting is my hobby, I shall not be bored.
It maketh me to do research on far places.
It causeth me to correspond with odd people.
It keepeth me alert.
It leadeth me into areas of understanding for curiosity's sake.
Yea, though I live through a Winter of inclement weather, I will fear no boredom, for my stamps are with me.
They provideth me a means of escaping from the tensions of my responsibilities.
They filleth my house with books.
My cash runneth lower.
Surely interest and knowledge shall follow me all the days of my life.
And I will be listed in the ranks of the Philatelists forever.

DREAMS

Dreams

All of us have plenty of dreams,
that we whisper to the moon beams.
while we look at the dark blue sky
with hope that they will not fly.

Sometimes fate becomes too harsh.
that some dreams fall into the marsh.
that shreds one's life into pieces.
All crumbled,recovery seems hopeless.

Confusion and disappointment take the center stage.
All efforts turned futile, cannot get an advantage.
Thus, one's image becomes so little in the world of giants.
like crawling and  busy ants.

Open your eyes and focus on your failures
Think hard, so you will not be taken by vultures.
Your situation has given you a hard knock.
Summon your resouces to become a strong rock.

Tempests are inevitable along the way.
They can pull you rock bottom and sway.
Don't give up, there is the Lord's invisible hand
whose power can stop the wind at His command.

The fulfillment of one's dreams carry some surprises.
From failures, there are hidden rewards and prizes.
Later, one can smile as tears roll from your eyes.
The hard work and patience have made one wise.

SIGNS of TIME

By Leah C Dancel

Palm Beach
12 November 2022

SIGNS of TIME

I love being old.
And getting older
I don't mind having grey hair,
White hair, or platinum hair;
Whatever.
I want to leave the colour
As natural as it is:
No dye, no artificial colouring
No tainting.
Having spots and dots on my skin
Never bother me
Nor wrinkles and eyebags
and other parts that sag.
Dentures or toothless state
Becomes a new normal.
I don't mind a light sheen
On my face, or little paint
on my lips.

Getting old is a wholesome experience.
Though it comes with some discomfiture:
Arthritis, osteoporosis or diabetes.
Yet, touch wood, I have none of those.
But, something around me
Somewhere, I know I have problems too.
Health issues are human's natural appendage
Of life's dramatic journey.

When our body starts slowing down
Showing remarkable changes and signs of time;
Here and there, a guest comes to visit
Sometimes in a group all at once
To Torture me, persecute me and taunt me
More often than not, beyond my endurance
A fighter I am, I resist, but I still endure
To cope, to manage, to adjust
To any pain that inflicts me
I even call her a Friend.

Even so, I am told not to worry.
Old age is life, but my heart is young.
And I've learned about coming to terms with it.
And all the vanities in this world
May continue to exist
For all I care.
My only hope and wish
For myself
Is to grow old gracefully
And die peacefully.

A Tribute

IN GOD'S LOVING CARE

I'm lost ...
to know you're gone!
My heart is ill with grief.
I have no words to utter,
There's none that will flow.
Now that you're gone,
I can only think of you asleep.
As you pass through the valley
of darkness,
The Angel of Light will hold your hand.
He'll lift you to the highest firmament;
There you'll see the earth down below
With your loved ones looking up the sky.
Tears in their eyes ...
hearts inconsolable;
They're pining for God's comfort
And His promise of eternity.
Go in peace, my dear friend
May you rest in the bosom of
God's  loving care.

I knew a Wise Woman
And she said to me

That the river would mold me
And the wild wind would cool me

That the trickster the coyote
He would fool me

That father Sun would warm me
Mother Earth would clothe me

Grandmother Moon would greet me
And of the old ways she would teach me
Wise woman, she told me

To always walk lightly
Tread the earth ever gently
Lovingly so preciously

And take from her sparingly
She said, to share with others
What you have learned from me

Be still and breathe, ever patiently
For the web of life
Has woven what is to be

But you must still choose
Your own path, you will see

And lastly, the wise woman said to me
To listen to the wise one
That dwells within me

To walk my path in balance
Is too be free
More than just words
So mote it be...

FEELINGS

FEELINGS

Feelings are felt in the heart
That spring from thoughts coming from the mind
About things we live each day and night
Issues of life and times of every kind.

We not only express them in utterance
We show them through deeds and in emotions
Some are pleasing, some in blind displeasure
They do appear in our countenance.

How enthusing our actions can move others
In the way our body language convey
On matters great and small, do they infer?
As they see how our feelings give away!

LOVE IN SILENCE

By Leah C Dancel
"The love we give away
Is the only love we keep."
~Elbert Hubbard

LOVE IN SILENCE

You are the only love
My heart can ever keep
The one that makes it beat
The warmth I've so much missed
None others can fill but you.

You are the only love
I will ever want
Amidst the turbulent air
Amidst the violent atmosphere
Of chaos and confusion.

I'm very sad how things happened
In the middle of nowhere
The war-mongering strangers
Were no strangers, still we're caught unaware
Of their wiles and divisive schemes.

The potent poison coming from the arrow
Had set me dead, my heart broken
I'll journey on and wish to see a rainbow
Sitting in a pot of gold hinted by golden rays
Where the sun shine brightly over the mists.

Up on the air, I'll weave dreams
Counting stars in zillions
Write them in a gazette of memories
The moon may wane, their beams may fade
My love for you will forever stay.

For you in silence I will continue to live
The path I tread in your arms will lead
At night when hopes relieve all sorrows
One day, even the dusk at twilight will see us through
For the unforgettable memories our love have shared.

BLESSINGS

'May you be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May you be safe and free of injury.
May you be free from anger, afflictions, fear, and anxiety.

May you learn to look at yourself with eyes of understanding and love.
May you be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in yourself.
May you learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in yourself.

May you know how to nourish the seeds of joy in yourself every day.
May you be able to live fresh, solid, and free.
May you be free of attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.'

MAKE NEW FRIENDS

Lifted from the post of Maria Theresa Causapin

CTTO

"Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test -
Time and change - are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray,
Friendship never knows decay.
For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.
Cherish friendship in your breast-
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold."
