SEEK REFUGE WITH MOTHER NATURE

By Hedda Tady

There is no shame in accepting weariness of the world, for indeed, perhaps we are unaware, but this home is no longer the same as the one of old. This one takes bites off of you from every corner. This one demands, exacts a price, that all too often is too steep to bear for one human.

But that is ok.
Tell yourself you are ok.
Sometimes, you don’t need to produce something totally grand.
Sometimes, good is enough.

And sometimes, when life has become a little too cold, harsh, difficult, look to ones that hold you in their silence.

There, seek comfort.
And when that does not work, run to the woods, walk along the shores. There, seek solace. There, find yourself again.

Each one is far too preoccupied with living, surviving, thriving. You make plans, you set your eyes towards the future, but you find, the future could not wait for you. It went on ahead, leaving you groping for a new kind of tomorrow.

Hurt, pained, but all of these is nothing but of your own making. When you allowed your heart to walk outside your chest, sometimes, someone runs away with it. Sometimes, in their hurrying to tomorrow, they didn’t see it lying on the ground. Stepping over it, on it, dead weight on your heart.... it happens.

Let go.
Set eyes kindly on the other, for they too, are just making the best out of nothing that the world has become. They too, are just making an effort to grow old leaving not trash but gold.

So, walk along the shores.
Talk to a tree.
Run your hands along flowers in the garden that is life.
Run to the mountains.
And for a bit, seek refuge in Mother Nature. Until, you find that your heart is back in the protection of your chest, not lying all vulnerable, on the ground, for others to trample.

As We Walk this Earth

By Hedda Tady

As dusk ushers in
I ask, how did I spend my day
Did I make someone walk
    a little lighter,
With a smile, a nod to say, “I see you!”

Did I read with full attention
Paying heed to own questions
Did I write, knowing full well the
     soul that reads it
Can either feel better, know more,
or feel something is not right
     with the world.

‘Cuz we impact people, hearts and
     lives
With a word, a gesture, an act, a
     stare
Resist, we might, of the footprints
we leave in the sands of life
But they are there, irregardless
how hard we try to unsee.

I might not wake up tomorrow
Isn’t that the only uncertain
      certainty
Of the lives we live, the puny ways
      we sometimes scorn
Or scoff at one another’s attempts
      at living life to perfection.

Must we all close our eyes tonight
With hearts alone, souls filled
Unforgiving, wondering, where
and how does all this end?
Games we play, little lies we tell...

Deluding ourselves, they are
      harmless
Nothing to lose, everything to gain
For self, for career, for honor, fame,
      prestige
Yet hollow is the void within.

What matters, then?
Isn’t it the people who walk this
earth, and they wear your heart
Isn’t it those who have your back,
even at times you didn’t have
       theirs?
Isn’t it those we forgot on the sidelines,
       when all their lives, they
       cheered?

Ahhh... sometimes we are a funny
       people
We race against time, yet time
       stands still
We chase after empty dreams of
        fame, fortune, honor, afraid to
        be mundane
Forgetting that peace is love and
that to be free, first, we must
allow to fuse our lives with
        those who walk this earth...

Our hearts, they have gained.

Pieces Off a Woman

By Hedda Tady

What the world may never know
Is how, with every armor shed
A piece of our skin goes
A piece of ourselves gone

Never to return.

With every struggle surmounted
We dig our graves a little deeper
Closer to our Maker
Farther from all pains

Whether friend or foe
Pieces of ourselves, we give
For that is the world’s design
Pieces off a woman

We stayed home
We starve
So we join the melee
We race against men.

We win. We lose.
Pieces off a woman.

Our bodies, tired
Our spirits, torn
Stand, we must
Pieces off a woman.

Seek quiet, you say?
Be peaceful.
A smile, we offer
Inside, we unravel.

By the world’s design
Everyday
We take pieces off
All women.

THE ONLY CHOICE

By Hedda Tady
To be mindful that tomorrow is just a hope,
That yesterday is just a memory,
That we only have today and now, to live.

That is the secret to being present.

Be where you need to be, with who you want to be.
For there is only one thing that is certain : our mortality.

To live without regrets,
To pass this world and into the next without a tugging at the heart,
For things left undone,
Or for people left unloved,
Or for tasks left half-finished.

We only have one life.
Today, once it comes to pass, can never be re-lived.
There is no turning back,
There are no “if onlys”.

There is just the now and the today.
Live. That is the only choice.
