In Search of the ADARNA

By Yesu Ben
October 23, 2021

i caressed a very beautiful bird back to life.

In Search of the ADARNA
YB

We have in countless enquiries, through endless years and days,
had trekked t’wards what seems to be a land so far away,
such wisdom seemingly a myth, a tale or mystery,
our folklore’s hooded seekers and men of curiosity…

Who, on their fledgling step through urban asphalt, their ears heard
the muted secret weeping and songs of a stately bird,
whose mermerizing sound has kept their minds so deeply bent,
thus into forests dark to search, is where the seekers went.

Such fascination brought them quick to much uncertainty,
their lives becoming spent in books and universities,
for many years and months and days and many many weeks
for in their faith, “the Light of truth will shine on him who seeks”.

The light meant for a seeker true, the perfect love it brings,
the splendid song that only one resplendent bird can sing.
The pow’r from its songs when sang so beautifully and round
can bring the confused  soul and mind contentment with its sound.

And in a forest dark they stood enraptured for some hours,
enthralled and mesmerized by the songbird’s beguiling  pow’r…
and in that vision, they were brought to grounds of profound peace
where pain and sorrow, life’s torments and  agonies had ceased.

But murmurs and enticements of the world did rouse them up,
the vision van’shing swiftly leaving them like empty cups…
and recollecting so that their goal and mission wasn’t peace
nor was it freedom, nor from  agonies and pain, release.

One of the men, did eye a golden nest upon a tree..
Beside it, Lo! the great Adarna, did they chance to see.
And slinking quickly, shot a dart to make it sleep and fall
into a cage for love’s become too much beyond recall.

And overjoyed, wine were uncorked and alcohol was poured..
congratulating him, his team, for this great work, they soared.
With a dissecting  knife, into its heart, pierced their own souls
for they have become sages – to dissect’s become their goal.

The great resplendent bird would sing its gentle songs no more
and these great men who confined it,  these men that all adored,
Could not track down the secret leading all from strife and pain,
for their great wealth and struggle– they’d still be bereft of gain.

For t’was in list’ning to its songs that lost lives are made whole -
but to these men of great pretense – research was vital goal,
for life is quickly lost, within a span, so too with birds,
for gentle creatures  hold the key…  to Life’s unspoken word.

To sages of this modern age, what have we learned from this?
How’s it that in our vanity, the secret’s often missed?
The rhythm sings to us, the rhyme, the poetry compels
and yet we prefer noise and din, thus we can’t break the spell.

Too many mornings turned to heat, the golden chance has gone,
the truth has flown, love’s come too late, to discern what’s been done.

The Great Invocation

By Yesu Ben

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men –
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

Tribute

For Don Luman-ag who now must hurdle  a ravine so deep that he must summon all strength to get him through it.

i believe that Divine Will is above all other wills (even those of Babylonian Billionaires). Divine Will keeps the Universe moving and being and we are the Universe itself as we are its parts. What force is more powerful than one that can move planets, expand galaxies, make trees grow and make love touch every manifested or unmanifested being. Here is a poem, not written by me, but it has been a guiding light that's helped me grope through the myriads of hindrances, monkey wrenches, doubts, fears and more.

WHEN IN APRIL

Authored by Yesu Ben
Guys, i was out of town, where signal is not that good, farming and trekking. I intend to try to beat the lockdown on August 6 by locking myself up in my farm until they lift it. Why when it entails a lot of physical effort to work on a farm? Firstly because there is hope there and there is fresh air, lotsa quick-smiling/greeting people, farmers on horseback sharing their veggies. Yes, there are more horses there than cows or carabaos.

WHEN IN APRIL
yb
At long last, clouds have lifted and dispersed;
The birds have reappeared; the land is wet;
The air smells of fresh earth; anguish reversed;
Yellow flowers dressed in green – proud and set
For a new day’s longed for exchange of views,
The meadow has become a noisy place;
Flora in brightest fashion clothes and shoes;
A conversation lively, vines embrace;

On privacies and on those blust'ring trees,
On rain, on covert sneak of weed on ground;
all drinking to the renaissance with glee
A cycle’s been concluded; life is found!
The conscious world sings, breathes and is aware!
With tenor voice that echoes in the air!

ON WINTER

By Yesu Ben
 (Catching your S1's Winter Chills)

Long grey days of standstill, days of desolate frost;
Winter childbirths gloomiest thoughts, of loved ones we have lost.
Why heavy feelings come – why linger with the snow;
Why when there's no sun solacing, why when even sprouts can’t grow.
This stretches on and on, this sea of white and grey;
Its beauty simply is not real, like
mem’ry dimmed away.

NB
(it's called a Poulter's Measure- alternating between 12 and 14. Poulter of course has to do with chicken, poultry. Thus the 12 for eggs are usually sold by the dozen. I chose the long lines of this form for they kind of create a feeling that this world is oppressive, since the reading is slowed. The rhymed couplets hopefully mirror in the pair of interrogative echos of L3 and L4 as well as the paired phrases of L5. I try to hinge at the center of the line to elaborate or to echo and to extend description. Try it)

TRIOLETS: AN INTROSPECTIVE GAZE

An illegal 6-syllable Triolet

By Yesu Ben

an introspective gaze
into a clear glass world
where untruths do not faze
an introspective gaze
that's held on to or hurled
the choice of those last days
an introspective gaze
into a clear glass world.

THE POET’S CREED

By Yesu Ben

I’ve roamed, from east to west, the world, by books and art,
have seen diversity inside my staggered heart,
To ad infinitum in voice that's sure and loud,
Expressions are wide-ranging, mixed, unique and proud

With this my pen and ink are paper bridges built,
that link the nations and recapture friendships spilt
yet failed I have among my peers and those I love
For conflicts eventuate within or from above.

I have my own path, yet it's Life I choose to serve
With poems and songs for life itself feels I deserve
This privilege and skill which few have been endowed
Not kings, not men of God, have the right to be proud.

I write my poems for love and not to have a name
For poets true aren’t steered by power, wealth nor fame.

(creating verses is how true poets show their appreciation to Life. Yet true that the perfect poem is yet to be written as yet the perfect poet is yet to be born)

DIDI, DREAMING FIRE AND WIND

By Yesu Ben
(Deeply inspired by Auden)

Oh Didi dreaming fire and wind,
Would you bring me there,
Teach me your night-waltz; dance with me
Tapping out loud in lunar sea,
God’s substance innocent and free
basking in the glare..

Convince the fire that eats the night,
Not to slay the dark,
And ask the wind, the cold it brings,
The breezes on raw holy wings,
The mournful anthem that it sings
Not to kill the spark.

Comes the water from the river,
Comes it from the deep
Oh scream at it that it may cease
Its gladness soaking calm and peace
That in regret and woe increase
When in fear you weep.

Go fly so ever far away
‘til you hear the sky
Until you hear its bitter song
Remaining so devoid so long
And blasting wind and rain so strong,
That you may know why.

Lose your strength in thoughtless seeking,
Lose also your soul
And tolerance for what’s been told
As you’ve grown weary, you’ve grown old
To truths that don’t count and don’t hold,
Bits that make the whole.

Climb up now the high high mountain
Your God-seeking self
Conquer all of your illusions,
Free yourself from all delusion,
Face the sea cliff of deception
Kill your untrue self.

BUT WE'RE NOT CARELESS CHILDREN

"These days are dark and heavy and I wish the best for everyone..." ~Author

Photo and Words by Yesu Ben

We are not careless children, we have pride
yet life is quickly crumbling on all sides...
and hope like yours, accord the Human soul
with scope, like billows on parched craggy rolls

of rocks that once were cultured living lands
until this shadow rose with rifling hands.
We cry, with voices once distinct, no sound
like slaves with masks and fear walking all 'round.

Bring me to meadows green, places I love
To be a man once more – once more to rove
and listen to the winds and seas that roar -
the happiness of youth I’ve known before.

Though few the years, I do not want that door
- indignity beyond and nothing more.
Whatever happened to that lofty dream -
Untruth! This evil lie, this wicked beam.

The hour is almost nigh, we’ll cease to be,
by Death, redeeming us, to perhaps see
a scene of bliss, and freedom, fiction gone -
With gladness real - with love, we aren't  alone.

Oh yes as far as I can go, yes I have fled
far from this cemetery of the dead.
Awake to a much greener world than this
and nearer truth, deep joy and perfect bliss.

THE STRENGTH TO JOURNEY

By Yesu Ben

Put down your pack therefore my friend
the road is long but it shall end,
and drink some wine, partake of bread
a pillow where to rest your head.
And think not of the weary things
nor all the misery they bring
Always remember that very soon
come this December or next June
the breeze shall blow again and soon
You will find that you have regained
the strength to journey once again.

I WILL NOT CEASE THIS FIGHT

By Yesu Ben
June 16, 2018

Yes, it has been four hundred years
when first those pale skinned men with swords
beheld this pristine land so dear
and walked on it as kings and lords.

But did not our forefathers with

inferior puny bamboo spears

die to repel these ravagers
who came to steal and instill fear.
I shall today with words and pen
rise forth to dispute their desires.

Let Life assist me,
Love unfold

to burn them with undying fire.
I will not cease this war, this fight
Nor will my resolve become thin.

Until the change has come to sight
to free my blessed Philippines.

A FREE SHOW

By Yesu Ben

I seek to find in long hours of ennui
A routine dance over a shaded glen;
The show will start at ten and end at three;
The stage is set, the mic tests now and then.
I feel so well-heeled watching from this floor
Surmising that perhaps that eager bunch
Of huddled birds, too tired to hunt and soar,
Have tickets saved from those days skipping lunch.
The ballet has begun and all is hushed
The gust that teased the leaves has settled down,
And rain begins to drop making clouds blush
And waltz in jazzy hues of purple brown.
The dances we’ve been used to won’t compare
To this of Life, exquisite and priced fair.
