WILL THE LILIES BLOOM IN MAY?
(A tribute to my beloved sister, Ma. Eunice Napud Sagge)
With fascination she watched the lilies
Waltz and toss their heads with the gentle breeze
White-capped sentinels of the ancient fence
In pristine splendor inviting praises.
What joyous feast the dancing blossoms bring
Inspiring lonely hearts to smile and sing
Plant lovers ask for a seedling to grow
In their garden patch or pots in a row.
One dreadful day the lilies were all gone
Harshly, hastily thrust in dump trucks--done
In seconds protest cries were all turned down
Sacrifice; road widening of the town.
Will they grow again when the May rains come?
Sadly she gazed at withered clumps of ground
Beneath the soil some seed might somehow creep
And wake up from its ling'ring slumber deep.
Praying patiently, hoping for the time
For the rains to fall and the sun to shine
She noticed tiny bits of life that gleam
Tender slender stalks of emerald green.
Eyes sparkling like myriads of twinkling stars
In pots she planted them a meter apart
She longed fervently for the time in May
That blooms appear as gifts on her birthday.
She was not around to witness the blooms
Maybe in spirit, she dispelled the gloom
For on that special day, seventh of May,
Lilies greeted her "A Happy Birthday!"
Lord,as I often wonder and ponder
Over miracles, I must remember
You alone have the ultimate Power
You alone, O Lord, now and forever!
