NOVEMBER the ELEVENTH

By Leah C. Dancel

NOVEMBER the ELEVENTH
(Remembrance Day)
In memory of my Late Father

The fallen soldiers
Lay in the field of red
It's the blood they shed
For the country they served.
Their lives painted in heroic red
Were the spirits of their courageous deeds.
Who can fathom the war of greed?
Of power, by invasion they're misled?
In their hearts were hope, their agonies prolonged
In that battlefield were holes they dug and buried dead.

The fallen soldiers
Left behind their comrades in thousands throng
Who fought to the end with brave hearts strong
Soon weariness took their strength
Puffing in breath, their tired bones bent.
Clouds were darkened in sorrows doomed
Rain in downpours, the dead entombed
Slippery muds covered them, they're dusts awashed.
In the land where hills and mountains stood
Guns and cannons flew in blasts.

The evil men
Were haunted by these spirits gloom
When in the fields grew the fiery red of blooms
Came the spectre of men in valour rose
Undulating shadows in high noon posed
Pleading for peace, begging for a truce.
Tired souls of the weary men
Cried in silence, their voices and bullets meant.
The world stood still amidst the eerie air
All bowed in grief in November of the Eleventh hour.
