TRAINING THE VINES

ISAIAH 18:5

For before the harvest, as soon as the bud blossoms
And the flower becomes a ripening grape,
Then He will cut off the sprigs with pruning knives
And remove and cut away the spreading branches.

TRAINING THE VINES

Working in the vineyard has taught me more of life.
Vines are like people, having their own ways and traits.
Like race and culture, each variety is unique.
We're training the vines early; never leave them late.

The vines grow from the seed with upward slender stem.
Supported by a sturdy stick as its own guide.
The stem then follows the contour, growing in line;
In training the vines, the workers' hands, they abide.

Taking notes of the process how the vines are breed.
In a vast field of space and imagination,
I contemplated how we humans are  chastised.
It makes me think of training the vines in action.

There in the vineyard so cold working on snow fields.
When the sunrise barely wakes up from her slumber.
I compare myself to the vines hanging all day.
Training the vines is done with care in their chamber.

That memory among the vines is a lifetime --
Indelible lessons that fuelled me to strive.
Our strength and weakness are not diff'rent from the vines
In training the vines in us, God helps us survive.
