Passage: RUMI by Leah C Dancel

RUMI: MY ICONIC POET
(Passage)

The world renowned Persian Poet, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi's mystical, philosophical and  spiritual wisdom embodied in his guiding principles to living that still influence so many since time immemorial speak of his unlimited erudite mind.

Having influenced by great mentors and teachers in his time, he expanded his knowledge into different branches of fundamental discipline to which he imparted to humanity from all walks of life.

His love of poetry and prose are exemplary and in simplicity of his words, his flow of thoughts ran like a never ending river, a non drying oasis in the desert, a deep well on dry lands to the vast body of the ocean. He touched all nature's beauty that is seen in the mountains, the highest sky, the birds, plants and trees and flowers and even animals.

Such broad map of knowledge he covered from day to day of his lifetime writings and teachings is almost akin to the spring well of learning I found in the Bible. After all, he was too, a profound Theologian.

If only I could be like him, ... nevertheless, it's enough for me to devote my admiration for everything I learnt from him.

His erudite mindset rests on things above rather than upon the earthly wiles. And with so many he could teach me, his honest and thought provoking testament on human principle has me in awe of his eternal wisdom. Ruminating on this particular verse below,  please allow me to highlight and share with you:

“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning is a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor...

Welcome and entertain them all.
Treat each guest honorably.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.”
~Jalaluddin Mevlana Rumi
