THE OUTBACK

THE OUTBACK
(PANTOUM)
By Don Luman-ag

I'm returning to the outback,
Far from nebulous city life;
To the basics I'm going back,
To rid myself of urban strife.

Far from nebulous city life,
Hear nature's mellifluous call;
To rid myself of urban strife,
It's an escapade from the fall.

Hear nature's mellifluous call,
Life is much better off the grid;
It's an escapade from the fall,
It's freedom from vicarious greed.

Life is much better off the grid,
To the basics I'm going back;
It's freedom from vicarious greed,
I'm returning to the outback.

THANK YOU MY FRIEND

By Don Luman-ag

I want to thank you my friend
You stood by me until the end
For being there while I'm in pain
When trials pour like falling rain

For checking on me with concern
Moment's need you quicky discern
Your thoughtfulness I won't forget
Our friendship is without regret

Your sincerity warms my heart
It drives away my fears and doubts
Your virtual presence cheers me up
You're like an angel sent from above

May I be able to pay it forward
To those in need may I do likewise
Heavenly blessings be your reward
May you find favor in God's eyes

TIME AND SPACE

TIME AND SPACE
By Don Luman-ag

In this celestial plane where we exist
We are inseparable from time and space
All levels of existence and consciousness
In this continuum we cannot  regress

Let us forget about the time machine
Things of the past and all that have been
We advance and flow into this progression
In our every action expect repercussion

All kinds of growth require some time
Whether it is a tree or just a blob of slime
Every person needs some breathing space
We have to respect others' personal space

Be aware that lack of space can suffocate
Even the sweetest couples or relationships
Each needs some time to be away from it all
Without time and space everything will fall

We need time to contemplate and reflect
On the deep significance of time and space
Even words without the spaces in between
Are simply letters that do not make sense

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS

By Don Luman-ag
I'm glad I didn't give up.

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS
By Don Luman-ag

Follow your dreams
To your heart be true
Though the path maybe weary
And the skies aren't blue
Just keep going on
When hope's not in sight
And there's no one around
To lend you a hand

In the darkest of night
Look up to the stars
See them shine brightly
To light up your way
Never give up
Just follow your heart
Whenever you stumble
Just rise from the fall

Follow your dreams
Have faith in your heart
Make use of your talents
Believe in your strengths
Don't ever give up
In your heart be brave
When you seize opportunities
Your stars you shall reach

WINDOWS OF THE SOUL

By Don Luman-ag

Whenever I look into your eyes
there is more to them l that I see
I see great depths unfathomable
deeper than the deep blue sea

Your eyes — are the windows
of your indestructible divine soul
Those eyes are mystical portals
that open into another world

Your eyes — they speak to me
in a language hearts understand
In the absence of spoken words,
letters, or signs made by hand

Your eyes, they communicate
encrypted message by telepathy
And everytime you stare at me
I read your soul — I see infinity

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

By Don Luman-ag

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

We are all interconnected
Everything is intrinsically related
In the greater scheme of things
Our actions affect all beings

As we realize we're an aggregate
We become mindful and considerate
We start to care for the environment
And internalize Earth's predicament

Each one of us is part of a whole
For we each play an important role
We are interdependent of one another
We can't exist without the others

We all belong in the circle of life
Let's put away all hatred and strife
Propagate love, trust and respect
Live and enjoy life in every aspect

A DIGNIFIED MAN

By Don M. Luman-ag

A poem inspired from  this Microprompt, the poet is challenged to come up with his own muse and dig his mind to write something about the picture before him. My friend Don M. Luman-ag with his brilliant mind get his pen going and scribbled:

Do not step on me,
don't trample on my right
I don't care about your status,
I can give you a good fight
Although I choose my battles,
but when honor is at stake
I will not hesitate,
to make you taste defeat

I have my dignity,
I got my pride
I walk with head held high,
with my every stride
I have nothing to be ashamed of,
I have nothing to hide
What you see is what you get,
I am who I am inside

I'm not used to being a taker,
for I know how to give
I share what little I have,
with those who are in need
It is always better to give,
than to be on the receiving end
I'd rather be the giver,
than to be the recipient

I don't live for validation,
I'm confident in my own skin
I do things that make me happy,
I choose to live life this way
I don't seek fame or recognition,
that is not my intention
Love is my real motivation,
my source of inspiration

FAMILY IS HOME

By Don Luman-ag

Happiest birthday Ma'am Norma Culhi! 🎉 Here's another poem I specially wrote for you.💓

We cannot choose our family
Nor choose where to be born
Is it some kind of destiny?
Or just completely random?

But regardless how you see it
One thing shall stay forever true
Your genealogy you cannot edit
Whether or not it pleases you

Family is a place that nurtures
And loves us without conditions
Gives us comfort and protection
It's the place that we call home

We should be proud and grateful
Because families are wonderful
Love them back for all the love
Not all men were blessed to have

RUN FREE

By Don Luman-ag
#randompoem02

Flowing rivers crystal clear
Chilly cool and clean crisp air
Horses running wild and free
Nature's perfect scenery

Tall majestic mountains blue
Magnificently capped with snow
Breathtaking fresh green meadow
All year round wild flowers grow

Far away from all the cares
Lovely landscapes everywhere
In this place my mind finds peace
This is where my soul finds rest

If you would love to run with me
Come let us set our spirits free
Back to the state of purity
Wild unbridled liberty

IN THE ALLEY OF DEATH

This piece is dedicated to Janet "Jackson" who inspired me to write this piece of fiction. May her bravery inspire us all.

IN THE ALLEY OF DEATH

There was a girl named Jackson
Weird, but Jackson was her name
She has no friends and family
whom she can call her own.
She writes rhythm and blues.
We first met at "Zax Bar Blues"
owned by a certain Mr. Mark,
whose last name I forgot.
She may not be the sharpest
but she's kinda funky and cool
Sort of a smart aleck -- at least
that's how she esteemed her self.
On her way home one day,
she found an ad plastered on a wall.
She got overly excited
so she immediately gave it a call.
It was a game of challenge
which the high and mighty schemed.
It worked exactly as planned
Jackson was victim number one
Trusting, naive and unsuspecting,
Jackson stepped up to the game,
her virtual self she presented
to this bout she has just accepted.
She had been fairly warned
but still she opted to proceed.
The poor girl Jackson is doomed!
Oh well.. Didn't she ask for it?
She invited trouble to herself.
Now she's caught up in a trap.
Ventured into unchartered territories
she thought she knew by heart.
Now she stands in the dark alley
in the nightmare she created herself.
Brainy beasts she has to confront,
totally wrecked her to bits.
Flesh torn, barely clings to her bones
Jackson got utterly deconstructed.
By the unforeseen lethal attacks,
she was completely annihilated
Her jugular vein faintly throbbed
as it spurts the last drop
while consciousness leaves her
wallowing in her own blood.
In the cold dark alley of death,
Jackson feared no trouble.
She gathered herself back, and
from her bad dream she woke up.

APPRECIATION POEM

By Don M. Luman-ag

I.
 Inspiring beauty and brains
That's how I see our dear Ma'am Helen
Just like her namesake -- the lovely Helen of Troy
Two great women destined to be in literature

Unequalled is her brand of leadership, guts and charisma
She's an unselfish woman, a very inspiring personana
A great source of encouragement for both seasoned and aspiring poets
I find great learning from her sincere and honest critiques

She's like a mother hen who tags along her chicks
She grooms and takes them to where the good stuff is
She encourages them to soar to greater heights
By creating various opportunities for them to shine

II.
Ma'am Eureka is a triumphant discovery
A real asset in the world of poetry
She's a sophisticated lady with a heart of gold
She's got so much talent, it's plain to behold

A model, actress, and artist rolled into one
With a personality as elegant as her more than seven hundred poems
She freely lends her exceptional skill in computer graphics
To give us beautifully adorned Quotes of the Day, awards and certificates

What I really like the most about this darling
Is how she remains humble and never self-serving
Such personal quality and attribute are worth admiring
For beauty of character is what's more lasting

III.
My very good friend, Ma'am Leah Dancel
I'm glad she coaxed me to get out of my shell
She's instrumental in rekindling my literary passion
She's the one who invited me to join Filipino Poets in Blossoms

I'm a top fan of her literary works
Her poems and essays are fantabulous
They're impeccable in both grammar and style
Coffee table book-worthy, riches to be desired

It's been my wish that her collected works
Will someday soon be printed into books
For this generation and posterity to enjoy
Reading them can give everyone so much joy

IV.
If you don't want to be a so-so
You got to learn it from Sir Dex Amoroso
As his Italian-Hispanic family name implies
Dex is indeed an amorous guy

He is naturally witty, never corny
At times he can also be humorously naughty
But mind you, he is profound and serious
A loving dad of two who's drop-dead gorgeous

He's an intellectual, not your average Joe
Looks intimidating but he is humble true
I'm so impressed with his self-authored books
He's a self-made man and I'm proud to call him "bro"

V.
Another poet whom I really I look up to
Is none other than our very own Sir Crispulo
He's also a late bloomer as he divulged
Sometimes our poems exist in parallel worlds

His works I'd say, are classic and refined
Free-flowing fountain from the heart and mind
He keeps exploring other forms and styles
I am bewitched by his "prosetry" in particular

Neatly written using choicest words
Precisely crafted and skillfully measured
Sentence fluency so smooth and expressive
Quality writing worth its weight in gold

VI.
I pay my tribute to Maestro Yesu Ben
This Philippine treasure is every artist's friend
He is a faithful guardian of the beloved craft
It's a great privilege to know this noble laureate

A teacher-philosopher of unfeigned humility
You can sense in him deep spirituality
Hard to match physical and mental agility
Looking super cool at the age of sixty

He mentors by example that we may not depart
From the gold standard for literary arts
His works are a testament to his well-earned stature
A brilliant luminary in Philippine Literature

TO MY HUMAN DAD

POSTCARD

By Don Luman-ag

People were amazed
At how I've grown to be this big
From being a tiny ginger tabby
Now I stand two feet and three

I was born of a stray mother
You welcomed into your life
They thought i've got a breed
Didn't they know I'm just well-fed?

Well cared and provided for
That's how I got my shiny fur
You always think of my welfare
Even when things weren't fair

You call me your little tiger
Who sleeps beside you in bed
We gave each other company
And comfort night and day

You told me many things
Your family didn't know about
Because you don't want them to worry
While from home you're away

Through my little eyes I've seen
Your life's ups and downs
I've witnessed how you shed tears
When it was too much to bear

Though my life had been cut short
I know how badly you're hurt
We'll be together someday, Dad
In another world reunited.

MAN AND CHILD

A hapless angel in your arms
Looks up to you for sustenance
Born out of your own flesh and blood
Yours to protect whatever betide

This gift of life is heaven sent
A present full of innocence
Entrusted to you to take care
To love and bear, your life to share

A child brought forth into this world
Is like a treasure, worth untold
Responsibilities expect
Child's innate rights you must respect

For any man out of desire
Is such an ease a child to sire
But sad to say not all of them
Are fathers in the truest sense

SUNDOWN

By Don Luman-ag

A furlough from the sizzling heat
From muscle ache and body sweat
A timely break from daily grind
A sweet respite for nerves and mind

As mighty sun prepares to set
Oh what a beauty it bequeaths
Balm to the skin its mellowed rays
Red, orange hues the sky they paint

Comforting, dreamy golden hour
Invokes contentment, inner calm
Cold northern winds they gently blow
The cotton candy clouds aglow

Replenish strength, time to unwind
With friends and family, drink and dine
Hardworking self to satisfy
Long day's over, chill out and smile
